    Description of My Fellow Americans:
Call this "The Odd Couple Goes to the White House." Jack Lemmon and James Garner play ex-presidents in this lousy comedy, each of them having served only one term as chief executive and each the other's lifelong enemy. The best jokes in the film are front-loaded into the first five minutes. We meet both men living life after the White House, one (Lemmon) making speeches for whoever will front his large fee, while the other (Garner) writes relevant books no one reads. Any time they show up at the same function, they insult each other like snarling schoolboys. It is pretty funny, but after a brief introduction My Fellow Americans goes downhill rapidly, becoming yet another stupid road movie traveled by characters who hate each other. (How many of these is Lemmon going to make?) The jokes get dumber and cruder, the actors embarrass themselves, and the whole enterprise becomes tedious. The DVD release contains production notes, theatrical trailer, bloopers, optional Spanish and French soundtracks, optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, and Dolby audio. --Tom Keogh

    My Fellow Americans Reviews:
The best political comedy ever 5 Star Review
2009-10-24 - So long as you have any awareness of things political, be you Democrat, Republican, or neither, there is something in this movie that will make you laugh, repeatedly. James Garner as the Bill Clinton-type ex-President and Jack Lemmon as the sort of George Bush Sr type just feed off of each other over the entire film. Dan Akroyd is superb as a smarter than your real Dubya type incumbent, and Lauren Bacall is her usual brashly classy self.

Two old political foes who really, really hate each other are thrown together in a common cause of survival that carries them from the wilderness of West Virginia to northeast Ohio and back to Washington with at least one good laugh a minute. There are great quotes for everyone--Jack Lemmon's "Don't fall into the trap, Democrats are full of crap!", James Garner's(upon being told by a trailer park trash woman she didn't vote for him because she was Republican)"At least you admit it, that's the first step on the road to recovery."

A bonus for me, a Texan immigrant to Ohio, is the writer's understanding of the Ohio obsession with good food. Don't take that wrong, Ohioans, it's one of the things I love about you.

All of the acting is superb, sarcasm and satire show themselves as delightful art forms, and the pace never lets up for a second until the wonderfully ironic ending.

If you have even the most fleeting interest in American politics and any kind of sense of humor, this movie is a must have.

    President's Day 5 Star Review
2009-10-17 - This movie is hillarious this is the best OPresident movie i've ever seen. i recomend this movie to everyone.

Now if only Washington can follow the advice from this movie 4 Star Review
2009-08-16 - I found this to be a funny movie, and also very suspensful. It stars James Garner, and Jack Lemmon as 2 former presidents who are caught up in a fiasco that could wind up getting one of them into trouble, and the only way they can get to the truth is to work together, and get this: Lemmon's character is Republican, and Garner's is a Democrat. There's alot of bickering in this movie which just goes to show you what goes on in Washington, but they learn to work together, and eventually run for president together at the end of the movie. I guess this was a funny placebo to help with the indigestion that Washington is all about. I get rather tired of the partisan attitude that is politics as both sides work hard to show why they have all the answers. I just feel that it doesn't matter whether it's a republican, or a democrat just as long as the country runs smoothly. To be honest I would rather see more teamwork in Washington we vote these morons into office because we believe in what they promise, and then they just drop them when elected. I just get so fed up with Washington, and wish they'd all go away. Perhaps watching this movie will help Republicans and Democrats learn to work together.

My Fellow Americans 4 Star Review
2009-04-26 - Two classic performers epitomizing the funnier Republican and Democrat traits playing ex-presidents escaping an unidentified ruthless current president. Subtle points made too.

Lemon & Garner - It doesn't get much better than that! 5 Star Review
2009-04-02 - This is a watch, watch, and rewatch movie in our house! Every time we view it we find more to laugh at -- AND more that's almost frighteningly plausible in today's political climate. Fortunately, the intelligent humor keeps it from being too serious, but...it does give pause for thought. Most of all though, it's just a thoroughly enjoyable film.
