Selena's Secret: The Revealing Story Behind Her Tragic Death Reviews:
Waste of your time!
2009-07-20 - I bought this book along time ago. The book is basically based on what Yolanda Saldivar's side of the story is. So if your a huge Selena fan and know that Yolanda's story of events on March 31, 1995 are false, then don't waste your time. Yolanda saldivar knows Selena is not here to speak for herself no longer and has used it to her advantage in everyway. She claims she has some big secret but till this day has not said what it was even 14 years later. The reality of the situation is Yolanda is in prison, she has nothing better to do. She sits in her cell having to think about what she did for the rest of her life and why she's in there. She tries to come up with new things to claim her innocence. One of these ways was claiming Selena had a "secret". Ms Arras obviously bit into it. Yolanda has never revealed the "secret" because there isn't one. And if she does reveal this so called "secret" then nobody will care anymore what she has to say. Saying she has a secret about Selena gives Yolanda that power to still be in the public eye..obviously if people like Ms.
Arras are writing books about it. The sad part is, is that people actually believe and bite into what Yolanda has to say. And Selena is not even here to defend herself anymore.
If you're looking for a "shocking revelation" about Selena, you won't find it here
2009-07-15 - I'll start off by saying that if you're interested in reading a well-written and well-researched biography about Selena, read Joe Nick Patoski's "Como La Flor". "Selena's Secret" is more about Marie Celeste Arraras herself than it is about Selena. Also, no "secret" is ever revealed, although Arraras would have you think otherwise. Don't buy into it. In addition, the book focuses a great deal on Yolanda Saldivar (more time was spent psychoanalyzing Yolanda than discussing Selena's life, music, and her so-called "secret"), and Arraras has a considerable amount of sympathy for Yolanda, which I found to be disturbing.
Bottom line: if you buy this book, you will be disappointed. The title is extremely misleading, but I suppose that's a tabloid journalist for you.
THE WORST BOOK EVER
2009-05-16 - I hope Selena fans will not buy this book. It is not accurate and Arraras seems to be sympathetic with Yolanda Saldivar.
It is my opinion that Arraras is just trying to cash in on Selena's death. Amazon had refused to puiblish my previous review because of my harshness toward Arraras, but I will say that if the shoe fits, wear it.
She is a liar, among other things. I think you get the picture.
Good, but really no secrets
2009-04-29 - I liked the book to a point. It did explain some things that I didn't know about Selena. But secrets, really there isn't any that you will find in this book. She says that she reveals some but I read it and didn't see any.
I was disappointed that she says there is a secret that will come out, but she never goes into that. If you are a true Selena fan, don't even dare read this book, you already know about her life. I was reading it to find out more about her, was really disappointed.
Selena's Secret by Maria Celeste Arrarás
2009-03-17 - I very much enjoyed this controversial book.
I could tell that the writer was a t.v. journalist by the way she depicted
the different situations that followed the tragic murder. María Celeste Arrarás painted us scenes with printed words and gave us the impression that we were watching a movie. Superb!
