Editorial Review:
At first it sounds like Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover was spliced into a joint project between Faith No More and Testament, but the longer Sevendust's self-titled debut album plays, the more it takes on its own life. The Atlanta, Georgia band is well schooled in thrash metal, but it has a soft spot for sing-along melodies and more than a passing interest in hip-hop. Cobbled together, the results could sound fractured and divisive, but Sevendust's surging wah-wah guitars, razor-edged riffs, bloodcurdling screams, and soulful vocals blend together as smoothly as strawberries and rum. --Jon Wiederhorn
Sevendust Reviews:
Unbelievable
2008-04-17 - I had heard songs like "Black" and "Too Close To Hate" before I had purchased the cd, but it was barely scratching the surface. Once I heard the rest, I found it hard to believe that this was the same Sevendust that put out hit songs like "Waffle" and "Praise." It is in fact the exact same line-up that went on to record three more albums together before guitarist Clint Lowery left (he has recently returned). By no means is this a nu-metal album, but than again, I never thought of the band that way. Unlike their other releases, this one is the most angry, and has a sound that kinda reminds me of the permeating groove metal of bands like Pantera and Machine Head. Call me crazy, but that's what comes to my mind. Everything after this record truly sounds different, but that's not a bad thing considering nobody wants to make the same album twice. However, do not pass this one up. It is not one to be overlooked.
awesome
2008-03-31 - WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS CD I WAS AMAZED!SEVENDUST HAS BECOME ONE OF MY FAVE BANDS IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.AND IF YOU GET A CHANCE SEE TNEM LIVE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.BLACK IS AWESOME,AND WIRED IS GOOD AS WELL.HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM

The pinnacle of derivative nu-metal
2007-12-22 - If you like songs that have the same structure, riffs, and subject matter, this album's for you! Not since AC/DC has a group been able to churn out the same song 12 times on an album, and the same album over and over. Many of the bands influenced by Sevendust are great, and they have a few gems here and there, but ultimately, it's like Mexican food and Linkin Park. Same three ingredients, 20 or so ways of arranging them, slap a different name on it and WA-LA! I'm sure Clear Channel loves these guys.
A Landmark Debut Album: Already a Classic.
2007-12-13 - This was one of the most refreshing releases of the late 90s. Anyone who lumps these guys in with the watered-down, unoriginal Nu-metal scene is delusional. The chugging, churning riffs are relentless. The album blasts out of the gate with two heavy-hitting singles, the classic songs: "Black" and "Bitch". Lajon Witherspoon is one of the most talented vocalists in the business, able to move effortlessly between harsh, barking vocals, to screaming, to beautiful, soulful singing. That is partly what makes 7Dust so hard to resist. They aren't like all the cookie-cutter bands out there. The guitar riffs and musicianship are top-notch, boasting some of the most talented musicians out there: Clint Lowery is an amazing guitarist and Morgan Rose is one of the best drummers around. There is not a dull moment on this record. Other classic songs include "Prayer", "Terminator", "Too Close to Hate" and "My Ruin". If you haven't tried these guys out yet, and you are a fan of heavy music in general, this is one of the hardest-working, most talented, and biggest heavy bands out there. They tour to no end (great live show) and are great with fans. Try them out. Also, they already have built a large discography. They will be releasing their 7th studio album March or April of 2008, I believe. And the great thing is, they haven't changed or sold out like so many other bands do over the years. Yet, they still have kept things new and interesting. If you like this one, get them all!
