Editorial Review:
It's thrilling--in any language--to hear new music from Colombian superstar Shakira. And it's been a long time coming. Shakira's English crossover opus, Laundry Service, was released in 2001. The Spanish Donde Estan Los Ladrones came three years before that. Fijacion Oral, Volumen 1 is the first of two new discs; an English counterpart is due in November. Shakira's bleating, biting voice is in fine form, and it gives the material an electric urgency. She's girlish and innocent during the glittering "Dia de Enero" and sensual and seductive amid the thundering beats of "Lo Imprescindible." A talented stable of producers, including former Soda Stereo vocalist Gustavo Cerati, has swathed Shakira in rhythm-based arrangements. But the album's best moments come when Shakira channels her inner--and innate--rock goddess. "La Tortura" is a hurts-so-good break-up duet with Alejandro Sanz, and "Escondite Ingles" rides a beach-party guitar groove. --Joey Guerra
Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 Reviews:
Takes me back to Shakira's very 1st album
2009-09-20 - Takes me back to Shakira's very 1st album Pies Descalzos. Since Shakira went english I kind of lost intrest. However, this album Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 was a whole lot better.... I give this one a 5 star. Very very good and mellow out.
Shakira - produccion latina - musicos latinos
2008-12-11 - Yo estaba esperando otra cosa.
Easily her best work; an artistic triumph
2008-05-05 - This album is simply amazing. After the commercial success of her first U.S. release, LAUNDRY, Shakira went back to her artistic roots with this all-Spanish album. The musicality, lyricism, and tone of this CD puts all of her prior and later work to shame. Even the English VOL. 2, a great album in its own right, pales in comparison. Shortly after its release, "Hips Don't Lie" (which is not included on the original version of VOL. 2) became a big hit. I don't assume Shakira will ever return to this sort of artistic work, preferring to make millions making mindless pop songs, and who can blame her? At least she gave the world this one resounding triumph of sound.
Beautiful Music!
2007-09-29 - This CD is an outpouring of Shakira's more mature, thoughtful and emotional side. The CD is full of songs that are more mellow than "Grandes Exitos."
Overall, the all-Spanish CD is excellent and offers a lovely, toned-down version of Shakira's vocal style.
My Shakira Fijación.
2007-09-22 - "The song's not a hit until makes my hips move!"--Shakira
Okay, I confess. I have a Shakira Fijación. She's beautiful, she writes her own music, she can dance, she's multilingual, I've read she's very smart and, oh yeah, she can sing. I really like this cd. Although "Hips Don't Lie" may rank as her biggest hit single, Fijación Oral Vol. 1 remains my favorite Shakira cd to date. Produced by studio genius Rick Rubin, Fijación Oral Vol. 1 is the Columbian superstar's first all-Spanish album since 1998's Dónde Están los Ladrones?. Songs include:
1. En Tus Pupilas
2. La Pared
3. La Tortura
4. Obtener Un Si
5. Dia Especial
6. Escondite Ingles
7. No
8. Las De La Intuicion
9. Dia De Enero
10. Lo Imprescindible
11. La Pared (Version Acustica)
12. La Tortura (Shaketon Remix)
From track one to twelve, backed by strong rhythms and tight musical arrangements, Shakira's sensual and seductive vocals are in fine form. The only thing better than listening to this cd is watching Shakira perform these songs live on Shakira: Live & Off The Record. But I should warn you. Once you see Shakira perform, it's hard to look away.
