The Complete Limelight Sessions Reviews:
Everyone has a starting point....
2008-04-16 - OK, so this isn't the Shania we all know and love. Everyone started somewhere. Listen to the very young Elvis's Sun Sessions or the Beatles Decca audition recordings and you won't hear the artists we've known and loved. Personally, I think she had a lovely voice back then but the choice of songs and arrangements leaves a lot to be desired. My favorite is Hate To Love because it shows off her voice nicely. And for those who think Mutt makes her only sound good in the studio, you must not have seen her perform live - the lady puts on a wonderful show for all ages, and has an awesome band as well. So folks, consider this what it was/is: a young, talented singer finding her way, who had a chance to make an early experimental album, and has grown musically since then. Early Elvis and early Beatles didn't show the tremendous potential they had to offer, either. (By the way, early Judy Garland singing swing in the 1930's didn't give any indication of what she was to become). The beautiful butterfly came from a the modest caterpillar. I appreciate these recordings for what they are, and am grateful to have it as part of Shania's history.
Cheesy but hints of the future are here too
2007-12-04 - I have to wonder if there's videos to a few of these songs..
This is one of those CDs that people who have Y Kant Tori Read and Alanis' pre Jagged Little Pill CDs in Canada, but my opinion is for a demo is that it's above average. Shania and pre-fame collectors will love this.
You have to keep in mind with late 80s what was on top 40 radio was Expose, Taylor Dayne, Heart, and Whitney Houston, there's little hint that she would go country, but the ballads and a couple of cuts do give clues into the future.

GOOD
2006-02-15 - SHE IS A GOOD VOCALIST, THIS CD ROCKS, BUY HER CDS INSTEAD.
I GOTTA BUY A TRIBUTE TO SHANIA TWAIN.
Not for 'fair weather' fans, but an interesting retrospective...
2006-02-11 - To all those who like to attach themselves to the Shania bandwagon then try to claim her 'talent' is entirely down to Mutt Lange I have this to say - You have obviously never attended one of her hugely successful live performances...
This album is typical of the late '80's pop-rock genre Shania gravitated towards on account of her early career whilst supporting her siblings after the death of their parents.
As a fan of, say, 'Foreigner' or 'Heart' I can safely say that Shanias performances here do not lack anything in comparison. Not forgetting either that these are by no means polished album tracks produced for general release, being only re-mixed demo tapes.
If you want a perfect example of how good her vocals are on this album, record yourself singing to a backing track in your bathroom at home to see how awfull this could have sounded - and just how much potential there was waiting to come through.
'Lost My Heart' and 'For The Love' are my personal favourites here and ably demonstrate her ability to belt out a good song with passion and committment.
Take no notice of the tinny quality of the music recording, concentrate instead on that amazing voice and be glad she had the grit and tenacity to pursue her dreams, thus providing us with the great vocal talent we came to appreciate - not to mention the pleasing aesthetic qualities she brings to our screens.
And take no notice of the poor reviews listed here - In my humble opinion there really hasn't been much thought employed therein.
