Pretty good book overall
2008-06-10 - The book is quite small (55 pages), of "self published" quality and paperback construction- more like an oversized pamphlet than a "book"- so don't expect too much in the way of in-depth detail when spending that "out of print book" premium this book commands.

With that said, good things can come in small packages. This book is a fairly good starting point and a general primer for slipform stone building. It proposes a number of good ideas and outlines a general a-z method for an owner built stone home. It also espouses some good philosophies for the builder to have, particularly in the way of saving money.

I wish someone would reprint this book, as it would be an absolute must-have for $5 or $6, but with copies bringing upwards of $30, I'd say its more of a discretionary purchase than a prerequisite to stone building. Still, it does come recommended.

2002-12-17 - This book is full of great ideas on how to build a low cost house out of stone. Make sure you also buy "Building With Stone" by Charles Mc Raven, and "The Art of The Stonemason" by Ian Cramb, and any other stone masonry books you can find before you start a project like this.
