A purple crayon and abundant creativity lead a toddler named Harold along a path of imagination and discovery that winds through the contemplation of big questions like "where does the rain come from?" while exploring intense feelings like frustration and loneliness. While this Emmy award-winning HBO Family series is based on the concepts and drawings of Crockett Johnson's books, it is not an exacting, faithful re-creation of those books like the Scholastic Video Collection version. Instead, this series embraces Johnson's overarching theme, that children use creativity and imagination to make sense of their feelings and the world around them, and uses that concept as a starting point for a colorfully animated, musically rich series featuring a curious toddler's imaginary nighttime journeys. In each of the thirteen 20-minute episodes, Sharon Stone narrates as a sleepy Harold contemplates something like the sound of the wind or his own loneliness, grabs his purple crayon, and draws a picture that leads him on a journey of discovery. Along the way, Harold gains a whole new perspective on his place in the world and learns some very important lessons about friendship, feelings, and self-worth. Bedtime wonder 
2009-11-16 - This is the second purchase of the same DVD; great little stories before bedtime. The first DVD is at my grandsons' home. I bought this one for when they come to visit for the holidays.
my kid loves harold
2009-11-12 - My son loved the book, so we watched a show on demand, and he loved that as well. So we ordered the set and has made many a car trip easier!
Harold and the Purple Crayon - The Complete Series
2009-11-07 - I bought this dvd for my three year old grandaughter who loves Harold. She was excited to get the dvd and watches it all the time. Sharon Stone has the perfect voice for the narrator. The stories are cute and the pictures are just like in the book. I would recommend this DVD for either boys or girls.
An Excellent Series for Young Minds
2009-06-12 - I purchased the complete series because our son loved the DVD we checked out from the library! It has a large number of episodes, and so for the price you are getting a fantastic amount of playing time. Sharon Stone does an excellent job at narration, and has a soothing voice that my son doesn't have to strain to understand. The episodes have great songs, and our son is already memorizing complex musical stanzas. Nice product, great series! Hard to believe it's almost 10 years old already...still highly relevant.
Great series, one DVD didn't work 
2009-04-02 - My toddler LOVES Harold. I would have given this five stars had both DVDs worked. The second one just wouldn't play, in numerous DVD players. Sad times! I am a NO TV!! mom most of the time. I liked this series because it is paced appropriately for a small child, teaches valuable lessons, and episodes are in 20-25 min. chunks. I would definitely recommend this series to other mindful mamas.
