  • Editorial Review:
Welcome to Death Row tells the unauthorized history of the most notorious rap label ever. And what a story it is--the rise and fall of Death Row and its power-hungry CEO, Marion "Suge" Knight, makes The Godfather look like a bedtime story. The film traces the entire controversial history of the label and the impact it had on not only the music industry but American culture. The film also details the relationship between Death Row and its biggest star, Tupac Shakur, and the effect that Shakur's sudden death in a 1996 drive-by shooting had on the label's fortunes (a story told in greater depth in Thug Immortal).

Although none of the major players in this drama are represented on tape, an alarming number of believable behind-the-scenes sources makes this a documentary that goes a long way toward revealing the intimate connection between the music industry and organized crime, and the desire for power and glory that drives them both. --Chris Campion

Welcome to Death Row [Region 2] Reviews:
The GREATEST documentary EVER!!! 5 Star Review
2006-06-09 - I've been a fan of Death Row Records since 1992, when they dropped the LEGENDARY album The Chronic by Dr.Dre, and later Snoop's LEGENDARY debut album Doggystyle. Everything was all good until situations, planned or unplanned, caused the company to spiral out of control and crumble. Due to the legal problems, Dre leaving the company, and all things related caused Death Row's unfortunate and untimely demise. Now, normally I would review what's on the DVD, so what I'll do is basically talk about how AWESOME and REAL this dvd is, as opposed to giving aways what's on the dvd. The way the rise and fall of Death Row is told here by Suge, Dre, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and others in nothing short of amazing. We start in the very beginning to when NWA was formed in the mid 80s to the end when Dre left the company. All of the information here, I knew some of it before I saw it for the first time. But the information told here that I DIDN'T know before surprised me. @ times during this film, it's SO intense that you just can't help being captivated by the content. Don't believe me? In addition to the individuals telling the story, look @ the eyes of Lydia Harris and Simone Green. As you look @ their eyes when they tell the parts of the story, you're immediately drawn into the emotions of the storytelling. Also, all of the pieces of information are blended together superbly. NO history and incident is forgotten here, and you receive everything you could possibly know about the rise and fall of Death Row Records. Overall, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this dvd to any fan, long time fans, new fans, etc. You won't regret this purchase, and like me, after the first viewing, you're going to view this dvd repeatedly. It's just that good.
    LONG LIVE DEATH ROW!!!

Very Well Done 5 Star Review
2005-11-23 - This is an excellent collection of interviews and stories told by all the people who were there and experienced the rise and fall of Deathrow. If you're at all a fan, or just interested in all the hype behind Deathrow, i advise you to check out this video. You won't be dissapointed! Peace

Rise and Fall of Death Row 5 Star Review
2005-11-01 - While I already knew quite a lot about Death Row records before buying this, I was interested in watching this documentary after reading good reviews on it. While there are no huge revelations included here, it is a fascinating insight into the notorious hip-hop label, that was running rap music in the early to mid 90's. Most of the main players are interviwed here, Dre, Snoop, Suge and Harry-O. It charts their massive rise after releasing The Chronic and then Doggystyle the next year and then where it all started to go wrong, when Suge Knight started to bask in his new found fame. Some of the accounts show exactly how ruthless Suge was, though i suspect there are even more untold stories involving him. The seocnd half of the dvd deals mainly with Tupac, and then how Death Row completely fell apart, with Dre leaving and then Pac's death. If you have any interest in the hip-hop industry i would urge you to buy this, the only criticisms i have are that there are no interviws with David Kenner (Death Row Lawyer) or anyone at Interscope Records like Jimmy Iovine, though im not surprised they were unavailable to comment. An excellent documentary.

    The Film 3 Star Review
2005-08-19 - It's ok, but It could be better. No music, no songs..... only people talking and talking about this stars, their lifes, and many other things.

I would like to get some film, but with music and concerts.

2PAC FANS MUST HAVE THIS 5 Star Review
2005-07-13 - 2pac was and still is the best rapper everyone knows that.
If you know anything about rap you know he was killed. Who did
kill 2pac. I HAVE 2 IDEA'S.Pac is still alive. Think about
it how could he still be puttin out albums. All the rappers
know about. Em, 50, Jada, Dre, Snoop, Suge, and Warren G. PAc is livin somewhere in the Philliines or someplace like that.
Think about this, there was no autopsy report or picture. Also he was creamated and had no funeral either. Have you heard of the "7 day thoery." Pac's favorite number was 7. The number 7 kept on cominng up during the investingation. PAc was 25 when he dies, 2+5=7. In one of his nusic video with Coolio (i forgot the name) on a door the number 214 on the door. 2+1+4=7. If you wanna read more about the 7 day theory search it on google.

My other thoery is that I know he is dead. But who killed him????? SUGE KNIGHT KILLED HIM. He also had him them hit him to make it look like it was lygit. Git this Suge reportadly owed pac almost 10 MILLION DOLLARS. I pac was dead than he would make all the money on the selling pac albums. Why did Suge not wanna give all the rights of his songs to pac's mom if they would such good friends and would do anything for him????? I'll tell you why, Suge is pretty much not doin anything now is he. He would still be getting money off pac.

This movie and Tupac Ressurection made me sure about the theories by listenin to the facts come together.
