Ego Trippin' Reviews:
No eruption for me 3 Star Review
2009-02-02 - This is neither "Doggy Style" nor "Rythm and Gangsta." It's more like annoing R&B that it's like west coast hip hop. It even has some songs with really quite annoyig buzzing in the vocals -- it sounds like crap, but I have no doubt it's done on purpose, for reasons known only to the producers. Maybe they had shared one blunt too many with the artist :-(

Yes, there are some rhythms, there are some lyrics, and there are some nice hooks -- but all in all, this is not main rotation material.

At It's Pinnacle, It's A Great Listen (Rating: 6 out of 10- -3.0 stars) 3 Star Review
2008-08-14 - I really won't go real deep into this one on why it's not favorited by many of Snoop fans. First of all, anyone with a half of ounce of common sense would have realized that this "Doggystyle 2" is never going to come out. Second, Snoop does his little experimental songs, which might send many opinions in a different direction. With his lead single "Sensual Seduction" has him singing a few notes, which really didn't appeal to this listener. Another off the wall song was when Snoop goes the country route on "My Medicine" featuring Everlast (All Hip Hop said this is what happens when you are making too much money and are bored with rap...lol). Hearing "Cool" reminds me of an early 80's retro beat, which sounds very annoying.

Given that Snoop was testing the waters and slightly fails, he does pick back up his West Coast roots and does what he does best, which is party. The lead single really didn't make me buy this album, but the second single "Life Of The Party" featuring Mistah FAB and Too Short, did for me. Other tracks that were great were "Press Play" and "Neva Have 2 Worry". The latter is him explaining his Death Row days. "Those Gurlz" and "One Chance (Make It Good)" are other great songs that I enjoyed on this album.

I have to hand it to Snoop for trying something new. Being in the rap game since the early 90's and still going strong will have you comming up with some crazy ideas, good and bad. Most of the good ideas out weigh the bad, but it doesn't show here. Luckly he had the help of DJ Quik (whos due for an album), and Teddy Riley (where has he been?) helping out with the album, but Snoop might need to give Dr. Dre another call for a few beats. If you're real skeptical, listen to the audio samples and download the tracks that stood out. Peace.

Snoop Dogg - Ego Trippin' 8/10 4 Star Review
2008-08-10 - Only Snoop Dogg has the street cred to be able to pull off a minute and a half opening to album number nine, Ego Trippin', introducing himself and explaining his hard work on the record, and not come off as pretentious. Maybe it's Snoop's ultra-relaxed delivery, the perfect Isley Brothers sample on "Press Play", or the club-ready beat of "Sexual Eruption" (more commonly known in its censored form, "Sensual Seduction"), but Ego Trippin' starts off strong and falters in only a few parts along its nearly 75 minutes running length.

Highlights "Gangsta Like Me" and "Cool" both have widely differing sounds and lyrics, with the former a hard-hitting, spartan beat about Snoop's rep and the latter a soulful `70s funk rhythm that is infectious in its cheery celebration of bling.

The record's varied production team and styles work in its favor for the most part, especially on "My Medicine", where, along with Everlast and a sick bluegrass beat, Snoop sings a dedication to "Johnny Cash, a real American gangsta."

Only a few times does Snoop fall victim to contemporary rap clichés, with the beats and lyrics on "Life of Da Party" and "Ridin' in my Chevy" sounding recycled from any number of recent hits. But when you hear finale "Can't Say Goodbye," with R&B crooner Charlie Wilson, it makes up for all the small missteps and more.

good price, bad cd 1 Star Review
2008-07-10 - im a huge snoop fan, but this by far was thee worst snoop cd i could have ever purchased! not recommended!

cd was ghost-written people 3 Star Review
2008-07-01 - to all the people who are hating on snoop for putting out this album, it was all written by other people. snoop wanted to try this out and i guess his fans didnt like it. many of the verses you hear now-a-days is ghost written for the artist so dont complain, appreciate. you will be away the next couple of years from all the releases - dre, snoop, 50, and eminem are gonna take over the rap world once again
