In Texas “Yankee” is a loose term covering a lot of ground. If you’re not a Texan or a southerner, you’re a Yankee and therefore, to many Texans, suspect.
There are many rites of passage to being a Yankee in Texas: the first time you spot a pickup with a gun rack; the first time you realize that a week is a long time to go without Mexican food; the first time you recognize a change in seasons; your first thunderstorm; your first honky-tonk.
Culture shock in Texas can be intense and is exacerbated by local rules of propriety that tell us to keep our mouths shut. But here in this book we are going to talk about it all with good old Yankee outspokenness. We’ll clear the air, share experiences, orient newcomers, and have some good laughs.

Great Read 
2009-11-08 - I lived in Texas for six years, and even though I'm back in the area I grew up (St. Louis), I could relate to SO much in this book. It's an amusing lighthearted read for anyone who just really wants to understand Texas and Texans.

Yankee to Texan- a must read! (and your'll Yankees if your not from Texas apparently)
2008-12-16 - We are moving from Connecticut to Texas and so glad to have read this book to prepare for the transition. The author is a New York native and has been in Texas for the last 20 years and loving every minute of it.
Author discusses different cities, different attitudes on life, and a whole different way of thinking out in the mid-west and does so in a carefree uplifting way that makes you just so happy you are moving (or moved) to Texas. Topics include dressing up (all the time), the bible belt (all the churches in the area), things to do (in multiple cities), and movies to watch to prepare yourself (including background on the Alamo) (and much more).
Book is a quick read (one day- couldn't put it down) and short and witty with the occasional laugh out loud chuckle while reading it!
It is ok, not exactly what I expected. 
2008-09-27 - I was hoping for more insider tips to help someone moving to Texas. Instead it was mostly stories about her experiences. Not what I would call a "survival guide."

2007-08-23 - Since moving to Texas, I've been puzzled by some 'odd' behavior by friends. Now I GET IT. This book is hilarious, well-written, and absolutely on target.
