Murder on the Dancefloor Reviews:
This single needed better remixes 3 Star Review
2007-11-13 - Sophie Ellis Bextor's "Murder On The Dancefloor" was an international dance hit in 2002. This single opens with the "Radio Edit," in which a girl tells a guy that he won't get away from her on the dance floor. Musically, this song sounds derivative of early 1980's dance music. However, Sophie has a decent voice that works with the music.

Next is the "Extended Album Version." Compared to the "Radio Edit," there's an extra minute of instrumental at the beginning (with the occasional "murder" sung over it), and extra instrumental near the breakdown. Overall, this extended version works well.

Next is the "Jewels & Stone Remix," which increases the tempo of the song. During the intro and the ending, there's a "spacy" sound in the mix (which sounds like a flying saucer going overhead). Also, some occasional cheering and distorted vocal (sounds like the word "murder" has been distorted) is thrown in, and these vocals add nothing to the song; in fact, they draw too much attention to themselves. At the end, the vocals stop abruptly, which is followed by tinkling bells. Overall, this mix is mediocre.

The last mix is the "Parky & Birchy Remix"; this mix takes too long to get started. It's obvious that the instrumentation is building up by adding a couple elements at a time over the course of the three-minute intro, it just takes too long. Once the mix gets going, it has a flat-sounding bassline and percussion mixed with strings, tinkling bells, and horns. When the mix concludes, the vocals just abruptly end. Overall, this mix is mediocre, but could be stronger if it was shorter.

Overall, this single is mediocre. If you like the song, but don't want to buy the album, then get this single. Otherwise, you should get Sophie's album.

Puts me in a good mood every time I hear it (I don't know why) 5 Star Review
2006-07-14 - For the dark subject matter, this song always makes me feel good. Ms. Bextor does a fantastic job, as always.
Trax:
1. Radio Edit (3:36, 10/10): Exactly what it says.
2. Extended Album Version (5:30, 11/10): I love this extended mix. Nice and long.
3. Jewels & Stone Mix (5:39, 10/10): Funky and discofied. A great "party" version.
4. Parky & Birchy Remix (7:22, 11/10): B-E-A-UTIFUL!!! A great dark disco mix. Very house.
If you like this, I suggest getting her fantabulous solo debut album, "Read My Lips". It's her best album, hands down. Her second one just isn't up to par. She's currently recording another disco album with Fred Schneider of B-52s fame. Guaranteed success.
PS: Even though this isn't available on Amazon, try & find it at your local Borders store. I found my copy there.

Murder Rocks. 5 Star Review
2005-09-28 - This is oneof the best songs toget you going. I fyou can find it but it an dyou wont' be disappointed.

Best Song EVER !!! 5 Star Review
2003-01-03 - Murder On The Dancefloor is an excellent pop/disco song, very catchy, and makes you want to dance and sing a long. Sophie's first album "Read My Lips" is awesome ! She sings with her posh english accent all the fab tracks, but Murder is simply brilliant. I personally Recommend: "Murder...", "Take Me Home", "Get Over You", "Music Gets The Best Of Me" & "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)". She will be touring the UK (JAN/FEB) and Europe in march. Do yourself a favor and go to one of her concerts.

buy it today! 5 Star Review
2002-11-23 - Great new single by an artist that's already popular outside the U.S.
