  • Editorial Review:
Mel Gibson's Oscar-winning 1995 Braveheart is an impassioned epic about William Wallace, the 13th-century Scottish leader of a popular revolt against England's tyrannical Edward I (Patrick McGoohan). Gibson cannily plays Wallace as a man trying to stay out of history's way until events force his hand, an attribute that instantly resonates with several of the actor's best-known roles, especially Mad Max. The subsequent camaraderie and courage Wallace shares in the field with fellow warriors is pure enough and inspiring enough to bring envy to a viewer, and even as things go wrong for Wallace in the second half, the film does not easily cave in to a somber tone. One of the most impressive elements is the originality with which Gibson films battle scenes, featuring hundreds of extras wielding medieval weapons. After Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky, Orson Welles's Chimes at Midnight, and even Kenneth Branagh's Henry V, you might think there is little new that could be done in creating scenes of ancient combat; yet Gibson does it. --Tom Keogh

    Braveheart [Region 2] Reviews:
Dissapointed in this Blu-Ray version. 2 Star Review
2009-12-05 - This being one of my favorite movies of all time, I must say I was really dissapointed in what this Blu-Ray version had to offer. Not a single deleted scene. On NBC, Braveheart was aired with added footage. Why was this footage not included in this 2-disc version? Owning the DVD and having seen this movie probaly 10 times, simply having a little sharper picture doesn't justify this purchase. The special features in the original DVD are actually better than the Blu-Ray. If an extended version is ever offered I will be the first to buy it, but I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this one.

An Excellent Movie Made Even Better 5 Star Review
2009-12-02 - I recently purchased Braveheart on Blu-Ray from Amazon during their Black Friday sale. When I watched the film, I was blown away by how beautiful the movie is in high definition. I usually cannot tell much of a difference on my television(37" Olevia with 1080i and hdmi cables) between up-scaled standard and high definition. However, while watching this movie, I was blown away at how wonderful this movie looks. While certainly no slouch on DVD, this movie in HD is a sight to behold. The colors are vibrant and the detail is extraordinary, especially in the outdoor scenes.
The movie itself is excellent. It practically swept the Academy Awards in 1995 and made millions and millions of dollars. Of course it isn't entirely historically accurate, but if I want historically accurate, I'll watch the History Channel. If you haven't seen this movie, you are in for a treat.
Another reason to get this would be the manufacturer's rebate for people who own the DVD version. If you send in the proof of purchase tab from both the DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as the form inside the case and your receipt, they will send you a ten dollar check. I think it expires around June of 2010. However, I'm not very keen on cutting up my cover insert, so I'll have to call Paramount and see if there is a way around this.
There is a second disc of extras, though most of it is rehashed from earlier releases. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie. No Blu-Ray collection is complete without it!

A whole new experience 4 Star Review
2009-12-01 - This movie has always been my favorite. Viewing it on Blu Ray makes it even better. Overall the picture is superb but I couldn't give 5-star rating because at some parts of the movie, the focused subject appeared blurred. This is the only set back. Sound Q is excellent.

Braveheart (Special Collector's Edition) 3 Star Review
2009-11-18 - Two times on this DVD it froze and then jumped ahead by 3-4 seconds. Not really a problem as far as missing anything on the movie, just think it should be perfect for the price I paid.

    Fantastic 5 Star Review
2009-11-14 - Perfect Work they did :) image its Fantastic!! quality is amazing !
