Editorial Review:
Ten years after the group's platinum debut, Wisconsin Death Trip, Static-X's sixth studio album pays tribute to its devoted cult of followers. Even darker than 2007's Cannibal, with longer songs and more loops and synths, Cult Of Static features the most crushing guitar ever heard on a Static-X disc plus Dave Mustaine of Megadeth ripping a guitar solo on 'Lunatic'. Bow down before the sound and the fury of Static-X!

Cult of Static Reviews:
Wow... 1 Star Review
2009-12-10 - A friend gave me this cd two days after he bought it. It was not originally bought as a gift, he just thought it would be better in my hands than in his because he was going to use it as a coaster for his beverages in the living room. After listening to this through 3 times now, I'm trying to find someone to give it away to myself.

This cd is awful. I remember back when Static-X became popular, and how Wisconsin Death Trip was my favorite album all through my late grade school and early junior high years. Then they started progressing in their sound to avenues many didn't like, but I found enjoyable. Machine was probably my favorite cd of theirs, and then came Shadow Zone. I enjoyed it, but missed the older sound. Then Start A War was released and I lost nearly all respect for the band because there was maybe one song on the entire song that was halfway interesting. And oddly enough every cd they have released since has been a steady decline in overall quality. Cult Of Static is not only following that trend, but has set the new low standard for industrial/nu-metal bands.

A big problem with this cd is every single song is basically the same. It sounds like the work of one guy recording in his basement for three days straight. And I do not mean the composition itself is the only bad thing, but the production is simply awful. There is no bass in this cd worth mentioning, and the overall tone of the album is so off that I can not really focus on the music itself very well. It just sounds so amateurish in production that even if the music itself was good, I wouldn't be able to really focus on that fact. Sadly, the music isn't any good either, so they kind of create this interesting vortex of awfulness that Static-X can't seem to get out of.

I think the most depressing thing about this cd other than the bad composition of the songs and the poor production, is the vocals. What happened to the great vocals off of Machine and Shadow Zone? Seriously, those cds probably have the best written vocals of any album in their discography. (Note I'm not talking about lyrics, but rather the vocals themselves. I'm not sure there has ever been a Static-X song that had good lyrics.) It sounds to me that Wayne has become increasingly lazy knowing that he has a huge record deal and no matter what he puts out 12 year old kiddies who are angry with their parents will still run out and buy his garbage just to spite their elders.

Moving onto the music itself, the biggest gripe I have is the guitar solos. None of them fit with the songs, period. The solos are not good in the first place, but the fact that they do not flow well nor are introduced correctly in the songs really makes them feel even more out of place. It is kind of like ordering a hamburger and it was served to you on a hot dog bun. The only reaction I can give is "WTF?!" But even if you take the guitar solos out the songs themselves are stupidly simple. Even for Static-X, which seems to pride itself on making the simplest music ever, this is beyond simple in structure. They would do well in actually listening to the music world around them and at least incorporating some new ideas and writing techniques. Because their music is becoming stale, boring, and bland. Sadly, this is nothing like what they started out as with Wisconsin Death Trip and Machine.

To say the least I'm disappointed with this cd and can't figure out why anyone would want to listen to it multiple times through. Hopefully I can find my copy of this cd a new home, because if not it will continue it's work as a coaster for beverages on my living room coffee table.

off 3 Star Review
2009-11-27 - I'm a little disappointed with this release. The last good Static X album was Start A War. They seem to have lost their momentum. I hope they get it back. When they are on, they sound great.

What can I say? I'm addicted to Static-X! 5 Star Review
2009-11-07 - Ever since the release of their very first album titled Wisconsin Death Trip, I have been a member of the Cult of Static-X. Throughout the last 10 years, I have enjoyed every single one of their albums as they have been released with no exceptions, and I enjoy this new one as well. Cult Of Static is one of Static-X's best albums. All of the tracks on this CD are enjoyable, but my most favorites would have to be Hypure, Z28, Stingwray, and Skinned. Unfortunately, the best new song is one that is not even available on this version of the album, and can only be obtained on another extended version that has two additional tracks titled W.F.O., and a Cover of Motley Crue's Looks That Kill. The song W.F.O. (Wide Fn' Open) is one of the best songs that Static-X has ever done, and if you can get the version of Cult of Static which has that track on it, get it, it is definitely worth it. Looks That Kill is pretty good also. There is yet another new song available for download on the internet only and it is a cover of Poison's song titled Talk Dirty To Me, and that one is not very good, in my opinion. The song sounds like it was sung by the Cookie Monster, and it is one of the very few songs done by Static-X that I do not enjoy. It is almost laughable when you hear it, but, I just find it to be more annoying than anything.

Dave Mustaine RUINS Static X 1 Star Review
2009-09-30 - So, having been a very loyal Static X fan since the first album, I am sorry to say but I am ashamed that this CD graces my collection. MOST of the music produced in this album would stand up along with their earlier works, save but one addition who knows why they had to add. Was it a tribute to Dave? Was it a will to hear the lost late 90s speed metal solos that destroyed our ears?
Whatever reasoning, it is terrible. I get so angry when I waste my money. I thought this would be a sure thing. I should have spent it on 2 beers.

Shame on you Wayne Static for allowing your latest album to be so sub-par.

honestly... 1 Star Review
2009-07-25 - This album is just horrible. The songs are repetitive and redundant, and the production is cardboard-flat. Wayne Static, who used to tear it up no matter what he did (shrieking, growling, singing, etc.), barks in one annoying pitch for the entire album over uninspired and boring riffs. Multiple songs are about Wayne's new pornstar wife. I mean, i just don't give a [...], especially if the music is subpar. Which this is in every way.

I really don't know what happened; in my opinion, Wisconsin Death Trip through Start A War was all quality. Cannibal was alright, but this... I mean, it's just bad. Maybe they were just really drunk or something. Really though, don't waste your money.
