Description of Cowboy Bebop - The Movie:
As the eagerly awaited Cowboy Bebop feature film reunites the original director, screenwriter, composer, and vocal cast, it's not surprising that the film plays like an expanded TV episode. What should be the routine capture of a two-bit hacker by Faye escalates into a deadly game of cat and mouse, as Spike and the gang struggle to prevent the evil Vincent Volaju from murdering every human on Mars. Director Shinichiro Watanabe handles the action sequences with his usual panache. Inside the sinister Cherious Medical research facility, Spike fights a beautiful agent, using a push broom in a series of maneuvers Jackie Chan might envy. The climactic duel between Spike and Vincent plays against innocent yet eerie images of a Halloween carnival, recalling the amusement park setting of episode 20, "Pierrot Le Fou." Knockin' on Heaven's Door will delight fans of the series and provide an excellent introduction for the uninitiated who want to know why Cowboy Bebop is so popular on both sides of the Pacific. (Rated R: violence, brief nudity, minor profanity, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Cowboy Bebop - The Movie Reviews:
It will make a fan out of you... 4 Star Review
    2009-12-04 - Cowboy Bebop / B00005JMBJ

I'm new to the 'Cowboy Bebop' universe, but it is hard to ignore the popularity of this movie when browsing for new anime titles to view. I honestly wasn't certain what to expect - being from the American southwest, I have a mental image of `cowboy' which didn't sit too well beside anime in my mind and made me concerned that I might not like it, but I'm glad to say that my concerns were ill-founded.

`Cowboy Bebop' is more bounty-hunter than stereotypical `cowboy' - indeed, the `cowboy' aspects on display here are purely the `buck-authority' kind, akin to `maverick' (back when that was still a cool thing to be called), and not the guns'n'god'n'hats kind that I feared.

When he and his crew decide to try for a record-breaking bounty on a nearby criminal, they get more than they bargained for when they realize that the `criminal' is an incredibly dangerous terrorist who has been brutally victimized by a private drug company at the government's behest. It's truly refreshing and fascinating to see a movie handle terrorism so intricately and delicately - there's no question that the terrorist is - at this point - a complete monster, but at the same time we are encouraged to explore the concept that he is what he is at the hands of the government he seeks to terrorize. Indeed, even his plan to destroy the city is, in part, an effort to force the government's hand into *protecting* its citizens, rather than continuing to victimize them either actively or passively.

Like most good anime movies, `Cowboy Bebop' is extremely long, and very convoluted. I usually recommend multiple viewings of an anime before the story can be completely assimilated, especially in cases where much of the back-story is not immediately apparent to the new viewer, and this movie is certainly no exception. There's a lot of really fascinating underlying philosophy here, and if you aren't already a fan when you see this movie, it just might make a fan out of you anyway.

What did you excpect a bad Cowboy Bebop?? 5 Star Review
2009-11-02 - Well I really dont think that a bad Cowboy Bebop is possible my friends. The Characters are all there Spike,Jet,Faye,Ein and my favorite(as well as many others)Ed. If you liked the show or loved it in my case you will definatly enjoy this movie and if you havent seen the show well then buy this movie watch it and if you like it I would highly recomend buy the show.

Are you living in the real world? 5 Star Review
2009-10-31 - Since the original TV series was a such a phenomenon, even for non-anime fans, there just had to be a movie follow-up to it. Although like most films based on a TV anime, this one is a midquel taking place between Episodes #22 & 23 of the series. Usually, a movie like is either a sequel or it doesn't happen in the context of the series at all. This is a little rare to have a movie be like a "lost episode" to the TV series.

Set mostly on Mars, Spike and the Bebop crew are hunting for a terrorist named Vincent who plans to use a deadly nano-virus to wipe out everyone on the planet. Vincent was part of a team of soldiers from a previous war on Jupiter's moon of Titan that were subjected to military experiments in nanomachine warfare. This technology was later reused by a pharmaceutical company done in secret for the Martian government. Vincent got a hold of the virus, and is going to spread it all over the planet during a Halloween parade. Spike makes a reluctant alliance with the sexy Electra who is Vincent's old lover and an agent of the shifty pharmaceutical company, and she conveniently happens to have the vaccine to the virus that Vincent gave her without her knowledge. Together along with Jet, Faye, and some retired pilots, they manage to stop Vincent's plan. After all, Spike couldn't possibly die...yet!

The movie employs the same badass animation that made the series so great. Truthfully, it's only a little above the quality that the series had, which proves it's greatness to begin with. Everyone of the regulars gets some screentime, including the three old farts who frequently showed up in every other episode. Edward & Ein have a few magic moments too(beware of angry transvestites!). The climax is awesome too, even more so than Spike's final battle with Vicious. The soundtrack by Yoko Kanno is exemplary, with some hip opening and closing themes. This film also sports some of the best aerial dogfighting in an anime since Macross Plus. If you have the series box set, then you've gotta get this to complete your collection.

    Cowboy plague 4 Star Review
2009-04-08 - Take cowboy, add sci fi, New York and animation with a hip music back ground and you have a hit movie with nonstop action.
The fatalism and dead end psychology of the villain
with a government that is everybody's enemy makes the
bounty hunters the heroes without a cause.
I don't think they are really trying to be funny, but
as lot of the dialog and action is so old and over done that
you find yourself laughing at the black humor of the
eastern nihilism mixed with cowboy macho.

    Pleasantly Impressed 5 Star Review
2009-01-13 - I have loved the Cowboy Bebop Series for quite some time, and then of course, the movie came out. I was really hesitant about it, wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I typically don't like movies after the series. But I loved it. I definitely needed to have it to complete my collection. If you're a fan, you'd love it. If you're not a Cowboy Bebop fan, you've probably never seen any of it, and I strongly suggest familiarizing yourself with it.
