An urban hood given a new identity under the FBI witness protection program turns a suburban town upside down.

Description of My Blue Heaven:
The idea is clever but the movie can't seem to pull its comic weight: Steve Martin plays a mob informer who is placed in the witness-protection program and doesn't fit into the suburban California life the Feds have picked out for him. Rick Moranis is the FBI agent assigned to protect him. Martin mugs his way through the role of an Italian wise guy from the New York streets, but his performance is never more than an impersonation. The script leaves a lot to be desired, as well. Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) brings some gloss to the production, but he can't seem to do much else with the material. --Tom Keogh
My Blue Heaven Reviews:
Hilarious than ever!!
2009-10-15 - I've seen this movie before years ago but half of the time I'd watch movies in the middle to the end so I never get a chance to watch movies from the start and honestly anyone who loves both Steve Martin & Rick Moranis should definitly get this movie! It IS worth the money guaneeted!! Its such a funny movie with the dancing and other things going on you just wait on your seat never knowing what is gonna happen next or what's Vinnie gonna pull over Barney next believe me when i say its a funny movie that i am happy to own and love watching it whenever i want to get alot of great laughs!!
classic
2009-08-26 - this movie really is a classic. a great cast and a quality script. steve martin is amazing, some of the best one liners ever in this one
Sometimes I just like a movie to be fun ...
2009-08-21 - ... not cerebral or brilliant. This is a perfectly fun, enjoyable movie. If I'm feeling a little (or even a lot) down, the less thinking I need to do, the better. Movies are a good escape every now and then. There's some farcical, dumb stuff and lame bits, but there are a lot of truly funny moments, too. The two merengue sequences alone are terrific.

2009-07-26 - I really love this film. The way Steve Martin & Rick Marantis play off of each other is wonderfully funny. The dancing is terrific. I want this one to come out on Blu-ray. It is one of my favorites. All the actors are brilliant. Well worth a view. Low enough to purchase.
An exceptional movie!
2009-06-01 - I came to this movie a couple of years after it was released and I'm glad I did. It is outstanding - excellent cast, great soundtrack and visual imagery of San Diego that is outstanding. Rick Moranis is outstanding as a straight arrow FBI agent tasked with controlling a mobster (Steve Martine) who is now in the witness protection program. This ex-mobster is trying, with mixed success,to settle unobtrusively into suburban California where the marinara is mediocre and every crime is a felony. And so it goes from there. Martin crosses paths with Joan Cusack and his critique of her clothing is priceless. Later Moranis and Cusack likewise cross paths as Moranis gets Martin released from custody, to Cusack's fury. There are laughs and sight gags galore in this movie. The gallery of character actors give this film great depth and add tremendously to the humor quotent as they assist Martin as he settles down to the good life (until after he testifies) of a member of the witness protection program.
I have mixed memories of this movie as on the day my father died, we needed something to entertain my niece and nephew while my family was going through my father's effects. This was the movie we chose and after a little while we were all gathered around the screen watching and laughing. Now whenever I think back on my dad's death, I also remember the sanity saving humor of My Blue Heavan as it helped us through the grieving process. For this, if nothing else, I recommend it without reservation.
