Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration Reviews:
Handel's Standing up in his Grave, Hallelujia! 5 Star Review
2009-12-24 - Holy Moses! The Hallelujia Chorus was the Seattle Christmas Ship's transition theme last night when we cruised Bill Gate's Lake Washington and not a foot could keep from stirring. The ship became a pure megadecibel sound source for those huddled together around bonfires on the beach and those in the 18 ship posse trailing the Argosy "Spirit of Seattle". If you hear nothing else this Christmas...start here. All I can say is if Handel himself heard this performance of the chorus--he'd have stood up before King George and shouted, "Thank you, Jesus!"

But Who May Abide...? 5 Star Review
2009-12-06 - Track 5 on this album ("But Who May Abide the Day of His Coming?") has long been my favorite Christmas "song." No matter how many times I play it, I am overcome with emotion. Tears flow, and my perspective is always renewed. This is an amazing album. Anyone who loves "Messiah" will appreciate yet another example of Quincy Jones' genius. Handel + Quincy = Mega Masterpiece

A Christmas Must Have!!! 5 Star Review
2009-11-25 - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ALBUM!!! I have lost it, worn it out, scratched it and re-purchased it happily everytime. It is on constant rotation from Thanksgiving thru New years every year. It is a must have for any gospel lover. Hey, its a must have for anyone.

excellent fun for any Messiah lover 5 Star Review
2009-01-21 - The soulful presentation is great fun for any Messiah lover. The opening symphony makes use of all genres of black culture and molds it into one fantastic interpretation. This is my first of two favorite tracks. The second is Ev'ry Valley. I won't spoil it for those who have yet to hear it for themselves. In my opinion, these two tracks are worth the purchase of the CD alone. The remaining tracks are full of fun inventive interpretations on a "highlights" version of Messiah.

This recording rocks my musical world!! 5 Star Review
2008-10-09 - Quincy Jones already rocks my world. I have nothing but respect for him and the level of musical excellence that has always surrounded anything he put his considerable mind and talent to. But this re-imagining of Handel's Messiah from an African-American perspective is exceptional, extraordinary, unabated joy--especially in "And He Shall Purify" and "Hallelujah!" I am a middle-aged white musician/pianist/voice teacher in New York City. I got my Master's at Indiana University in voice. I was raised a Southern-Baptist even! I only offer up this information to suggest what an unlikely candidate I might be to enjoy this CD. I can't stop smiling and moving with these extraordinary performances when I put this CD on. God bless Michael O. Jackson for these vocal arrangements. I bow to the unsurpassed musical expertise, as well as the heart and soul demonstrated throughout the recording. And the mixing is something else--out of this world, truly!
This is one amazingly-inspired recording. Do yourself a huge favor and buy it for yourself and everyone you know. And get ready to rock out.
