The Secret Life Of Plants (1978 Documentary Film) Reviews:
Beautiful Concept & Album
2009-12-08 - Let me 1st say that Stevie Wonder is, in my opinion, the greatest songwriter of the 20th century & this album is a prime example of why. Coming off the heels of his tour de force, Songs In the Key of Life, Wonder took a whole new direction one which stumped many of his fans and critics at the time.
I for one love this album & thought it had & still does, some of the most thought provoking & etherial content ever put on wax. Wonder's overall genius is on total display with this album, lyrics, music compositions, multi instrumental performances, arrangement, production, innovation & creativity.
Most of this album ended up being the soundtrack to the documentary film Secret Life Of Plants which i still haven't seen. And it caused shock waves throughout the music industry at the time as many were waiting to see what direction he would head on the heels of SITKOL.
This album makes you think and forces every part of your being to slow down, relax & pay attention to what's being expressed. Hence the reason most of the critics of this ablum didn't get it, they're so used to music making you just feel good instead of thinking & using your mind to grasp deep concepts that they didn't have the patience to truly appreciate what was before them.
I highly recommend this double album to anyone who either has or maybe hasn't been introduced to the true majesty that is Stevie Wonder. But take the time to really listen and experience this album and not just rush thru it song after song, you'll be highly inspired and blessed for it.
Superb
2009-11-24 - Long B4 Al Gore and other organic and green environmentalist lobbies had 2 scratch their head with scientists on how 2 cure the climate change problem occuring on earth and how 2 remedy that, the Washington dc Smithsonian Institute, had asked M.Wonder 2 elaborate music 4 a movie seeking 2 display the grandeur of nature on earth, fm it's creation till the day. It was then released very late 70's (copyright of the album is 79) or ely 80's and I was fortunate enuf 2 be on location 2 see n hear it at the time: a master experiment! Some of the songs are so powerful in their words, it will apply 4ever: or as long as there is nature around us, viz life!
It doesn't get any better!
2009-11-02 - Head and shoulders above any other Stevie album (and most of them are fantastic), this should be required listening for all who claim to appreciate music. I wore out the grooves on the vinyl when I bought it in '79 and have continued to play it with deep appreciation and "wonder" ever since. A work of art and a thing of beauty for the ages. No lie.
The first digital recording
2009-04-18 - I saw stevie on Phil Donahue promoting the album. He said it was a "digital" recording done by sony in japan, the audience just stared at him having NO idea what he was talking about.this was 1979
Good Music
2009-01-19 - This is the best music Stevie Wonder ever created! The movie is good too. If you've never heard it, you've never heard what this man can really do ... and yes, it's old. He was at his peak! He's done nothing this fine since ... sorry Stevie, but it's true. There is no bad cut, no filler, nothing trendy. Every song is a gem, a joy to the ears and heart. I don't care if you believe me or not ... this CD is worth every penny you might pay for it and more!
