Editorial Review:
Rocky battles his most powerful adversary yetthe ferocious Clubber Lang (Mr. T)in this hard-hitting actioner that comes out swinging with adventure, humor and emotionally charged human drama. For what may be the most exciting and fast-paced film in the series, Sylvester Stallone writes, directs and stars with explosive passion and intensity. As Rocky Balboa (Stallone) fights his way into the hearts of millions, life couldn't be better. He scores ten consecutive wins, lands lucrative endorsement contracts and becomes famous throughout the world. But when Clubber Lang KOs Rocky in a humiliating defeat, it becomes apparent that the "Italian Stallion" has lost his edge. Considering hanging up his gloves, Rocky receives encouragement from an unlikely ally: his old nemesis, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). With Creed's help, Rocky strives to regain the "eye of the tiger" before confronting Lang in a grueling rematch for the world heavyweight championship.
Description of Rocky III:
Rocky III: The third installment in the Rocky saga is the last one to matter, and in this case only marginally. The now rich and famous Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) triumphantly pummels a succession of boxing challengers until he encounters Clubber Lang (Mr. T), a human wall of brick who wants a piece of Rocky's action. The Rock's loyal trainer Mickey (Burgess Meredith) has taken ill and dies, so Rocky recruits retired opponent Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) to whip him into fighting shape after his embarrassing defeat to Clubber. Time for another rematch, mixed in with some family matters involving Rocky's brother-in-law Paulie (Burt Young), who's feeling neglected amid all the hoopla. Not bad as sequels go, boosted by Mr. T.'s taunting presence and yet another rousing finale. For those with a bad case of '80s nostalgia, the hit theme song "Eye of the Tiger" is sure to bring back memories. --Jeff Shannon
Rocky III Reviews:
Great Movie!!!
2009-11-15 - Great Movie. A good movie for all boxing fans and education on boxing. Excellent acting by Sylvester Stallone. Mr. T plays a fabulous role and surely one of his best films. A great low key film. Awesome direction by Sylvester Stallone, the movie seemed very real. Almost one of the greatest films ever made.
Stallone
2009-10-03 - How ironic is this movie? Success goes to Rocky's head, and he loses his edge. The same could be said for Stallone, who was really adrift at this point. Rocky III is a big step down from the previous two movies, and even though I can see Stallone trying to make it great, he's not succeeding. Best part? Apollo Creed, of course. The segments in his dingy gym are really alive, and his motivational speeches are great. By comparison, Rocky's slow-talking, slow-thinking character is becoming tiresome. Worst part? Oh, for Heaven's sake, that Mr. T does not work at all. After topping a class act like Apollo, Rocky is beat by this dumb punk? Both fights are quick and one-sided - note how quickly Rocky thumps Clubber in the final battle, which is rather unsatisfying after his two epic clashes with Apollo. Nevertheless, I own this movie, because hey, it's Rocky and it's got rousing music and stuff. You could do worse.
Why did they change the Apollo Creed character???? (was sly on drugs in the 80's???)
2009-09-18 - As much as i loved rocky (1976), the series start's to change with rocky III. After rocky defeats apollo by knockout...rocky "the heavyweight champion of the world" wins 10 in a row and is defeated by clubber lang (ranked no #1 challenger). Some people say he lost because of the death of micky, or the fact that he lost the eye of the tiger (or a bit of both)...or maybe because he was living the good life in rocky 3 unlike rocky 1 and 2....who knows????
Well the reason why i disliked this sequel was because i didn't like the way the story was written...again i say to mr. sylvester stallone (writter and director) "why the change of apollo creed????". Apollo creed was the opponent in rocky, a villain in rocky 2 and now a best buddy to rocky...."please !!!". Stallone has made a goofy ripple in the water he can not change ...now the damage is done and after that followed a series of unnecessary sequels..just another reason (or excuse) to get sylvester stallone or rocky i should i say back into the ring after his so called "friend" gets killed in rocky IV.
I didn't mind seeing a rematch (rocky 2!!!)..now there is a good sequel...but please these movies just got stupider and stupider.
In rocky 7 he should fight the iron man.
Mr. T - a hit or miss?
2009-08-21 - Rocky III starring Sylvester Stallone is a good sequel but I have mixed feelings about Mr.T appearing in this film. Mr. T is a funny guy but he kinda ruins this film with his over-the-top acting. Stallone looks so afraid of him even though he wrote this sequel. This movie is sad because this is the last Rocky film to feature Burgess Meredith, who plays Rocky's heart of gold trainer Mickey. Good sports flick but Rocky IV is the real treat for me!
Rocky III (1982)-Three times the charm.
2009-07-13 - Rocky III (1982) was a four star return event. Not as good as the first two in my book but still an entertaining movie.
