Editorial Review:
Another action flick from an unlikely source (wildly inconsistent Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky), buddy movie Tango & Cash teams Sly Stallone and Kurt Russell as bullet-dodging cops who get on each others' nerves while uniting against a slimy French drug kingpin (Jack Palance). Violent, profane, and packed with implausibilities, this is one of those big-budget, stunt-laden affairs that gets by on the charisma of its stars, and they almost pull it off. Tango & Cash was Stallone's first attempt to share the spotlight with another hero, and he's casually laid-back in his change-of-pace role (well, OK, it's not that change-of-pace), while Russell is equally enjoyable as Sly's well-coifed sidekick. Ridiculous all the way, this one is entertaining if only as a virtual catalog of action-movie clichés.--Jeff Shannon
Tango & Cash [Region 2] Reviews:
80's buddy cop movie
2008-10-03 - It's no Lethal Weapon; I bought this cause I thought it was cool when I was a kid, not so cool as an adult when you can understand all the dialogue, in fact, you can probably say it sucks(a technical movie review term). But if you are into the whole 80's action movie genre then this would suit your tastes.
A treat for the eyes!
2007-12-31 - To all ladies, this film is a real treat for the eyes! I first saw this movie in a theater, and when Stallone and Russel are shown walking naked through the building, the entire audience of women collectively sighed in awe! The plot is great, and the banter between the two heroes is genuinely funny. The action is never-ending, and both men and women will truly enjoy this fast-paced thriller!
Tango Cash, Cash and Tango
2007-12-21 - If you ask me, Tango & Cash is one of the best and most enjoyable action movies there is. It may be a big budget Hollywood production, but it's a B flick all the way. There's nothing very original or unique about the plot(two rival cops have to work together to bring down the crime boss that framed them), and it's full of every bad action cliche to date, but that's all part of the fun. The movie is packed with cornball manliness and macheezmo, almost to the point of parody. But what really makes it work is the two leads. Both Stallone and Russell are two of the best action stars of all time, and I can't think of any other two that could have done this better. No, it's not Oscar worthy acting, but these two have a fantastic onscreen chemistry. Neither one is trying to push the other out of the spotlight or out-tough the other. Their tough guy one liners and banter is so funny, even when the jokes are total groaners. You can tell they really enjoyed working together, and it makes me wonder why these guys never starred in another film together. Special mention must also be made to the supporting cast which is a B action/horror movie lover's dream. You got Michael J. Pollard as a goofy inventor in the mold of James Bond's "Q", Brion James as an evil henchman, Clint Howard as Stallone's crazy cellmate who plays with a Slinky, James Hong(Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China) as one of the crime bosses, Geoffrey Lewis(Orville from Every Which Way But Loose among countless others) as Stallone's captain, and Robert Z'Dar(the Maniac Cop!) as a vicious inmate with a grudge against Stallone. Plus an early role for Teri Hatcher as Stallone's sister. Not to mention that the villain is played by the coolest man to ever slap on aftershave, Jack Palance. Now, even if the movie was pure sludge, how can you go wrong not only with two top notch stars, but also a supporting cast like that? You can't, that's how!! I have a special place in my heart for action films of the 80s, and an even more secluded and special spot for this one in particular. This kind of macho, no brainer action film is not everyone's bag, baby. But if it does happens to be your bag and you've somehow missed this movie, slap yourself a few times for being a schmuck and see it, pronto!!
Kurt Russell in drag, and Stallone screening his guests!
2007-08-07 - Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone shine in this action comedy. Jack Palance plays the evil drug lord who is insulted on how Russell and Stallone have costed him millions. To allow major shipment to arrive, Palance and his associates come up with a plan to put Russell (Cash) and Stallone (Tango) in prision knowingly that they wont come out alive. Teri Hatcher plays the sultry Kiki who works at an adult club (dancing) and in the movie happens to be Tango's sister. Cash and Tango escape prision, try to find who set them up and find out that Jack Palance is the mastermind. Russell and Stallone had some really funny moments (court scene where Cash just lets it all out on what he thinks), great laughs, and good action. Russell dressed up in drag and being Kiki's property was hillarious. Tango walking in on his sister and Cash; priceless.
Will Tango and Cash defeat Jack Palance? What happens to Captain Dynoball? See the movie!
