Salvos: Chamber Music of Mario Davidovsky Reviews:
A response to the poor review below 5 Star Review
2009-08-20 - V.L. Mundy's review is, as he or she freely admits, from the standpoint of complete ignorance. Davidovsky is a canonic composer whose reputation is undeniable. This is not to say that a good reputation makes one's music good; it does not. In the case of Davidovsky, though, his acumen as a composer matches his stellar reputation.

This recording is very well done with fantastic performances and recording quality. I particularly like Cantione Sine Textu, which creates a sonic world unlike anything I've heard before.

Sounds like the background music in a horror flick 1 Star Review
2007-12-07 - I have no idea who this Mario Davidovsky is, but I know who he isn't--and that's a man with a CD of his in my house. I had to look him up on Wikipedia to see what he was about, but it didn't help much. This truly sounds like background music in horror flicks or sci-fi flicks... and maybe a couple of cartoons where Sylvester is sneaking up on Tweety. But there is NO tune at any time. I mean, you cannot hum this stuff because there is nothing to hum. It's a bunch of screeching and yodeling.

Maybe I just don't have an appreciation for this kind of music, but I know one thing. I will never complain to myself about listening to my children practicing their instruments again, because even as brand new instrumentalists, they sound a whole lot better.

This CD was given to me. Rest assured I would never have purchased this for myself. No wonder it's hard to find.
