  • Editorial Review:
When it was announced that Tom Cruise would play the vampire Lestat in this adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel, even Rice chimed in with a highly publicized objection. The author wisely and justifiably recanted her negative opinion when she saw Cruise's excellent performance, which perceptively addresses the pain and chronic melancholy that plagues anyone cursed with immortal bloodlust. Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst are equally good at maintaining the dark and brooding tone of Rice's novel. And in this rare mainstream project for a major studio, director Neil Jordan compensates for a lumbering plot by honoring the literate, Romantic qualities of Rice's screenplay. Considered a disappointment while being embraced by Rice's loyal followers, the movie is too slow to be a satisfying thriller, but it is definitely one of the most lavish, intelligent horror films ever made. --Jeff Shannon

    Interview with the Vampire Reviews:
    Vampire Mania 5 Star Review
2009-12-24 - I have this movie on vhs, but wanted it on dvd, we are in the "twilight faze", and I wanted to share this movie with my daughter. This movie had the HOTTEST VAMPIRES!!! I also ordered the Twilight Saga for my daughter (all 4 books) for amazon at the same time. Amazon is the best place to order on-line. The service is quick and I've never have a problem in the years I have been ordering from them. A must have movie for you vampire collection.

    Well Played! 5 Star Review
2009-12-24 - I recently watched a youtube video of Anne Rice approving the jobs done by Crusie, Pitt, Dunst and Banderas in playing her beloved characters. See, Anne created these guys, so when she approves how you play them, you are pretty close to perfect.

After I watched that interview with Anne, I thought it might be fun to revisit the movie. So tonight I rented INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. I had seen it in the 80's and it did not impact me much back then. But I was reading the novels and I did not give them the separate attention they deserved. I want to correct that now.

This movie fulfilled the vision of the author as much as possible. Anne wrote the screenplay, which aided the production immensely, but also the actors really got well into their roles.

Tom Cruise took a lot of heat for his acting in this movie, but it is unwarranted. His acting -- pretending to be Lestat -- is actually superb. I can't imagine anyone doing it better. The haughtiness, the arrogance, and yes, the smooth good looks. Cruise made a great Lestat.

Brad Pitt is the only actor I can imagine to play Louis, the 'forever lamenting' and beautiful vampire. He looked tortured and miserable throughout the movie because he was tortured and miserable throughout the book. Think about it. If Pitt played him any differently, he wouldn't be Louis!

Banderas was also perfect as Armand. Of course, Anne's readers know Armand a whole lot better than this movie allows the viewers to know him, but he does a great job with the small face-time he is given.

All in all, I have to commend the entire production. Bravo! Bravo!

    Vamps 5 Star Review
2009-12-23 - This movie tells the story of vampires from a vampires point of view. Moving through the ages without aging and never dying. Lonely and cold. Also tells the story of the vampire Lestat- who is names in many other vampire movies... namely Queen of the Damned. This is a must for the vampire fan to have in their collection.

Blu Ray transfer looks terrible. 3 Star Review
2009-12-16 - I cant believe this is being sold as a Blu Ray dvd. It does not look like a Blu Ray at all, but rather a standard dvd. This movie deserves better than this. Save your money.

    Great movie. 3 Star Review
2009-12-13 - Great movie. This quality of the blu-ray was not really great. It's ok. Maybe older movies should not be made into blu-ray.
