Editorial Review:
This passionate, uplifting celebration of the human spirit received outstanding acclaim from critics coast-to-coast! Jason Patric (SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL, SLEEPERS) is August King, a young man whose life is changed forever when he risks everything to help a beautiful woman (Thandie Newton -- THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II) on a courageous -- and very dangerous -- search for a new life. Desperate yet determined, the two set out on a harrowing journey toward freedom ... and find in each other the strength to overcome incredible odds! Also featuring Sam Waterson (LAW AND ORDER) and Larry Drake (L.A. LAW), THE JOURNEY OF THE AUGUST KING is inspiring entertainment you don't want to miss!
The Journey of August King Reviews:
Purely romantic, adventerous and beautiful
2009-12-13 - I really enjoyed this movie. The cinematography was breathtaking even while revealing such an ugly subject of slavery and, torture of fellow human beings thought to be no better then animals by an uncivilized mentality of a people who like any other race has sprinkled through out it loving individuals who give hope and possibilities of change for the better within that particular races tragic and debilitating ignorances to a people like themselves. I loved all the actors especially Thandie Newton, she is such an exceptional actress in everything that I have ever seen her in. Jason Patric took my breath away and even provoked a spark of change in my thiking about the possiblities of interracial love, respect and honor. He would change any women of colors mind especially if that character he played was alive and in living color....Oh boy, my goodness!!!!!! The story was refreshing in the end to me showing another story told about slaves who found freedom at the hands of human beings helping other human beings no matter the race or cost to them. I believe there were such like people in that era of pain and Thank God for them then and now.
Showed the extremes of Human nature
2008-06-19 - I saw this movie on Austar in a Motel on holidays or vacation as Americans call them. I determined to get hold of it and I did through Amazon.
I want to commend the reports in here and I wholeheartedly agree with most of them.
I have not figured out why they beheaded some folks in the movie..I realise there was the slavery aspect and attitudes of slave owners etc. I liked Patrick's permormance and the slave girl actress (Thane?)as well.
have not figured out if there was some religious angle in there as well.
Thoroughly enjoyable and I think a lot of the other reviewers have said a lot of what I would as well.
Cheers,
The Journey of August King
2007-03-29 - Have bought at least a dozen dvds of this movies to share. A wonderful story about growth and goodness. An excellent movie for teenagers too. It may not have won any Oscars but this is a movie you won't regret purchasing.
Super Powerful Film
2004-12-03 - This is one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen. I would give it a 10 out of 10. Incredible. It is an uplifting film about the potential of the human spirit. This film teaches what will really heal the wounded hearts of our nations prejudice against one another, which is having love towards one another. A very moving and inspiring movie.
Less than 1 star
2003-11-22 - This movie is VERY BAD, INDEED!
Is totally predictable and disgusting!
Sorry for her because she is a good actress.
