Editorial Review:
Theres no denying that Tiger Woods has taken golf by storm. It seems like every time this 25-year-old swings a club, another PGA record is shattered. While his explosive drives, accurate approach shots, and steady putter certainly contribute to this success, both fans and critics agree that its Tigers devastating mental game that has propelled him to become the premier golfer of our time. Now Tiger shares his thoughts on what he calls the game of a lifetime. He reveals the five secrets he believes are responsible for his successa combination of physical, metaphysical, and psychological practices he uses daily to keep his game in top shape and help him to transcend all the ups and downs of golf. Best of all, Tiger reveals his unique approach to the game for the first time ever in this one singular volume. Tiger Woods became the youngest player ever to complete the career Grand Slam of professional major championships and only the fifth ever to do so, following the likes of Jack Nicklaus. He was also the youngest Masters champion ever, at the age of 21, and has since won 29 tournaments, including the 1999 and 2000 PGA Championships, the 2000 U.S. Open Championship, and the 2000 British Championship. He is the career victories leader among active players on the PGA tour. How I Play Golf will be lavishly illustrated with colour photos throughout, special design features, and easy-to-follow diagrams that will clarify and complement Tigers instructions. Its certain to be the #1 gift book of the year. First serial in Golf Digest.
Description of How I Play Golf:
No athlete has changed his sport the way Tiger Woods has transformed the world of golf. The Tiger phenomenon has created a new legion of golfers, seduced by Woods's almost effortless mastery of this most difficult game. In How I Play Golf Woods reveals the many facets of his game and offers a plethora of tips and advice aimed at all levels of play. Unlike most golf guides, and perhaps somewhat surprising from a player best known for his long game, How I Play Golf begins with the short game--putting, chipping, and pitching--before moving onto swing mechanics and hitting off the tee. Produced in conjunction with the editors of Golf Digest, the book is lavishly photographed and illustrated and offers a gold mine of useful ideas and mental images Tiger has collected over the years. Throughout, Tiger recounts memorable shots from his relatively brief career; for example, his only "perfect" shot (a 3-wood on No. 14 at St. Andrews) and his first putt at the 1995 Masters (a 20-footer for birdie on No. 1 that missed and rolled off the green). How I Play Golf is not only a first-rate instructional guide, it also communicates a passion and respect for the game that beginners, hackers, and low handicappers should find inspiring. Highly recommended. --Harry C. Edwards
How I Play Golf Reviews:
Fantastic Book - Fantastic Price
2009-10-15 - Tiger's swing in 2000-1 was pure. (Much more so than now, I believe...)
This book captures his swing in perfect color images that are worth being framed, they are so good!
Great insight into his mindset and swing thoughts at that time.
Worth triple this $ 12.99 price....
A 'Must Have' if you are a golfer.
Great book!
2009-08-20 - Really enjoyable. Great pictures. Published when he was younger in his career of course but right after his white hot 2001 Season. Very interesting what he shared about some of his shots and philosophies. A great adddition to the home library. I highly recommend it.
Excellent!!
2009-08-17 - This book will help improve golf in many levels . I am a low handicapper and found a lot of extremely useful info. I really recommend it.
Recommended by a old rookie.
2009-08-04 - I'm 49 years old and relatively new to golf. When it came to buying a book on how to play I looked at the zillions of choices available and decided, what the heck, this Tiger guy apparently isn't too bad. He might know a thing or two. So I bought the book and can honestly say the rumours are true. Tiger knows how to pitch, putt, and drive with the best of them and does a fine job of explaining it all here in simple language that even a mere mortal like myself can understand (but not always duplicate). The photos are outstanding as are his many reflections on various tournaments and past championships. I especially enjoyed his comments regarding the mental aspect of the game....how to stay in control, handle problems, and master the mind game. Highly recommended for beginners like me. Also, if you are looking for a hilarious gift for a golf buddy check out Master the Game
Great Read For More Experienced Golfers.
2009-07-18 - As mentioned in some earlier reviews on other golf titles, I am looking to pick up golf again after a several year absence due to family, work, and other interests. Saw this title at the local public library and decided to give it a try.
The book contains several pictures of Tiger Woods himself in different situations and how he uses his master skills to address them. He summarizes what he would do in a given situation and who's to argue with him?
I have no illusions of even coming close to Tiger Woods' fantastic golf game. The book is tailored more for the intermediate to advanced player. I would have liked to see more information on basic information (what clubs to have in your arsenal, when to use the, etc.) and will check this book out again when I become a more experienced (and hopefully better) golfer.
Recommended.
