Editorial Review:
The comic who's a guy's guy is now a bookseller's dream. The star of ABC's Home Improvement, the #1 show on television, Tim Allen has written the book millions have been awaiting--the naked truth about his outlook on life, love, and lathes. Allen's movie debut this November in The Santa Claus is certain to generate additional media attention. Line drawings.
Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man Reviews:
The funniest book I think I've ever read (and that's saying something)
2009-09-13 - I first read this years ago when it came out, and just thinking about some of the stuff in the book even today still makes me chuckle. I read voraciously, and this is one book that always cheers me up. And I'm a woman, but there's just so much funny things in the book that you can't help but laugh.
Few of the pages are funny + I totally agree when he said "a real man knows there's no substitute for good help, support.."
2009-07-02 - Only a few of the pages are funny although most of them are below-the-belt jokes. For examples from page 5 to 19, he described humorous situations that happened because his last name was Dick.
What I like the most about this book is one of Tim's philosophies. In Acknowledgments section, he said "All men like to think they can do it alone, but a real man knows there's no substitute for good help, support, encouragement, or a pit crew". I totally agree.
Besides the two advantages listed above, the rest of the book is bland.
Mel Brooks Had It Right, Stand Up Philosopher...
2009-04-14 - I bought this book while I was going through a very rough divorce, and it probably kept me from killing myself.
Nothing was funny then, and not even this book could make me laugh, but there was a lot of good information and deep thoughts that were expressed well and helped me understand what it was to be a man, and why even if it sux to be a man, it's not all bad.
I am a woman and I loved it! :)
2009-02-06 - Very funny book. But there is a big part of truth in every joke :)
what happens if you are a woman?
2009-01-29 - Or Gay? Or a naturist? Or particularly well-endowed and demonstrative enough to want to share your good fortune with friends and random naked strangers?
Tim Allen obviously doesn't care enough for these groups to want to address his comments to them. It is disgraceful. All that talk of men's private areas, beer, cars and women. It's disgraceful. etc etc.
Tim speaks to you like a mate down at the pub speaks to you. I don't know about you, but unless you were raised in Dawsons Creek, most of the pub conversations involving men break down into the following categories. Sport 40%, Cars 15%, Women you would like to sleep with 34%, wives/girlfriends 1% current affairs/news 1% and random speculation (e.g. can you blow yourself up trying to light your own farts") 9%. These categories give you a flavour of what Tims' book is about. Shaggy dog stories from his life, his observations of his daily circumstances (his story about the ants trying to steal his wifes' miniature handbag is one of the more hilarious offerings. It took a little while on my first reading to get into the swing of the book, but I was soon laughing out loud. Tim seems to have taken a little dip in popularity since the heyday of Home Improvement, but he is a funny, genuine seeming guy, and I hope he prospers anew!
