    Description of Joshua:
The world can be divided into two camps: those who will watch Joshua reverently and gratefully, and those who will not touch it with a 10-foot pole. The reverent probably own Joseph F. Girzone's bestselling novel about a mysterious but friendly loner who shows up in a small American town and blesses every life he touches. Whites and blacks, Catholics, Protestants, and Jews will work side by side as newly recognized brethren; an estranged couple will resolve to save their marriage; the lonely and disconnected will embrace and be embraced by community; etc. The message--the healing power of Christ's love--is beyond reproach, the intentions of the filmmakers entirely benign, but there is not one whit of dramatic tension or narrative complication to any of it. The cast is stronger than usual in such religious projects (Tony Goldwyn, Oscar® winner F. Murray Abraham, Giancarlo Giannini as the Pope), but no one has a prayer with a script that posits the hero's Christhood on the fact that 12 people show up for his going-away dinner. --Richard T. Jameson

    Joshua Reviews:
    Christians BEWARE! 1 Star Review
2009-12-05 - We are a Christian Homeschooling family-by that I mean-'Bible believing-Jesus is the only way Christians'. We bought this thinking it was a wholesome family movie--WRONG--It is not.
It is NOT bibilically correct at all. It has Jesus (Joshua, main character)coming to earth before the end time-- as a man to visit Catholics and the Pope. And then on top of that---The man who is Jesus---leads a woman on--and just about kisses her. Then throughout the movie 'Jesus' makes the point that it doesn't matter how you worship God--as long as it feels good and you make others happy. He does this as he performs many miracles including bringing someone back to life. It all ends with this 'Jesus man' visiting the Pope and thanking the Pope for what he has done and encouraging him to keep up the 'good work'. This DVD is trash and that is where it wound up!
    Need I say more???

    ULTRA SPIRITUAL 5 Star Review
2009-12-05 - Rio De Janeiro - Jesus Christ Statue 24x36 Poster
This is one of the most Spiritual movie I seen/own. I cry tears of
joy evey time I watch it. ( I have watch it about 100 x's ).
    JOSHUA IS A GOOD HIGH.

Touching and uplifting message 5 Star Review
2009-10-16 - I loved this movie so much after watching the rented version, I immediately purchased a copy. The lead performances are beautifully done. After watching Tony Goldwyn play Joshua, I can't imagine anyone else in the part and truly got a sense of what it would be like to actually know the man. He underplays the role to perfection with expressions that are stunning in their depth. F. Murray Abraham is wonderful as usual, offering a powerful and subtly nuanced performance. It is not a grand movie by Hollywood standards, but touched me more deeply than any before it. Since I hadn't read the book and didn't know what to expect from the cryptic Netflix description, the movie was something of a revelation. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure was for me. Most of the scenes are very short and there is a lot packed into the 90 minutes. I've picked up more tidbits by rewatching it since some are little more than sound bites, but carry a lot of meaning. Such messages of love and kindness and compassion do my heart good and I can't recommend this movie highly enough. It is not a fancy movie, but it is believable in a gentle, quiet way.

This movie is fluffy and misleading. 1 Star Review
2009-09-29 - I was expecting a christian movie with a good message. I received a christian message with a missed message. The movie has Jesus returning to earth in the form of a man named Joshua. The movie was full of fluff and biblical inaccuracies regarding our Lord and Savior. Needless to say my wife and I were disappointed with this movie.

Perhaps the most underated movie in history 5 Star Review
    2009-09-12 - This is a GREAT movie.
    Great acting!
    Great shots !
Great story from the Joshua series of books which are AWESOME.
    Well produced !
    .
It has all the things movies in recent hisotry do not:
    - A plot that is followed in logical and well developed sequence to conclusion
    - Great actors who develop and shape their characters into "beleivable" people.
Every one of them has fatal flaws in themselves and their lives,
but Joshua teahes them to rise above tose foibles and "become".
    - Values, principles and a message that enable human dignity instead of degrading it
    .
I've watched this movie at least 10 times and lent it and re-bought it as many times.
    .
While not everyone will see with my eyes or hear with my ears
to me this is one of the few MUST HAVE movies for a home library.
