Description of If These Walls Could Talk:
Virtually no one is ambivalent about abortion; the issue polarizes people like no other. HBO tackles the subject head-on with a trilogy of shorts, and, regardless of your opinion on the topic, If These Walls Could Talk is a bold and provocative examination of how the laws and attitudes about abortion in the United States have both changed drastically and remained so much the same.

Three women, three time periods, one house: each finds herself in trouble and must face the overwhelming decision about what to do with the unwanted pregnancy. The first segment is the most powerful, featuring Demi Moore as a young, recently widowed nurse in 1952. With no one to turn to and limited financial means, her options are few. Catherine Keener costars as her harshly judgmental sister-in-law. The next piece occurs in 1974, as Sissy Spacek, a mother of four who is trying to earn a college degree, discovers she's pregnant with her fifth child. Her utterly modern feminist daughter encourages Spacek to get a newly legal abortion, but it's a complex decision. In the final segment, college student Anne Heche becomes pregnant by her married professor. Her best friend, played by Jada Pinkett, is resolutely against abortion and the two wrangle over right and wrong. As the young woman tries to learn about her options, she finds herself enmeshed in the pro-life demonstrations outside the abortion clinic. Cher, who directs this segment (the other two are directed by Nancy Savoca), costars as a doctor at the clinic.

While trying to be evenhanded and demonstrating the different choices different women make, the film does have a decidedly pro-choice leaning. Yet the power of the movie is undeniable and it raises significant questions on both sides of the abortion debate, making it an important film for women (and men) everywhere to watch and talk about. --Jenny Brown

Thank you for your great service 5 Star Review
2009-09-12 - The product arrived in no time at all and in great condition. I was pleased with my experience and liked that they let a thank you note in the movie for purchasing from them. I would definitely do service with you again. Thanks!

    Decent drama 4 Star Review
    2009-08-11 - The Bottom Line:

This triptych about abortion in three different eras in American history doesn't reach for the stars but it succeeds in its modest goal of discussing abortion through the women involved rather than about some party line; If These Walls Could Talk sometimes suffers from flat and uninspired direction but it's a story worth watching.

    3/4

    Decent watch 3 Star Review
2009-07-14 - I like this movie, it has a lot of controversial things going on in it with a lot of big hollywood names. I wish it went more into details about the decisions that were made. All in all a decent movie to kill time.

Overall, a pretty good movie 4 Star Review
2009-05-15 - Normally I wouldn't have picked this video up and watched it. It was a requirement for a humanities class I was taking. I watched a few diffrent movies about abortion and I would say that this one was closer to the bottom of the list of favorites. I think my problem was that it moved through the stories too quickly. I did end up learning a little bit about abortion and how it can effect more than the woman having the abortion. Overall, I would say that it was a good movie.

The DVD I received was in excellent condition and arrived quicker than quoted. Thanks for an excellent product!

    Powerfully Poignant

A trilogy of stories set in the same house; "If These Walls Could Talk" was a special on HBO but is now available on DVD. It spans 40 years and looks at various women and moral crises over pregnancies and the choice for abortion, One story takes place in 1952 when abortion was illegal, another in 1974 when a woman realizes that she cannot handle other child in addition to the four she already has and the third in 1996 when a college student opts for an abortion without realizing the consequences of going through one.
What the film shows is that woman's choice for abortion is not an east decision. There are many reasons for unexpected pregnancy. In each of the three short films, we have a woman faced with that decision and we get a look at both internal and externals forces a women must contend with before she makes the ultimate decision. The film disturbs and it plays on the emotions. Demi Moore, Sissy Spacek and Anne Heche all give wonderful performances as women who are at odds with their family members, with friends and with society over the situations that they are in. Each of the separate films is also an excellent example of what goes through a woman's mind. This is not for a person who is light of heart but this an excellent film with a wonderful cast.
