Description of The Carol Burnett Show - Show Stoppers:
If you don't get at least a half-dozen belly laughs from this compilation of outtakes from The Carol Burnett Show, you'd better check your pulse. Originally broadcast on CBS in 2001, this affectionate retrospective reunites the peerless cast of Burnett's variety show--Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, Tim Conway, and Harvey Korman--to answer audience questions and reminisce. The cast recalls the many times they lost composure on camera, halting sketches due to all varieties of faux pas, from faulty props (or urinating horses) to mutual crack-ups. Culled from the show's mid-1970s heyday, the clips are infectiously hilarious, and the cast never missed an opportunity to inject a little raunchiness (later deleted) into their otherwise wholesome entertainment. Conway's the real conspirator here, frequently turning Korman into a helpless heap of giggles, and costume designer Bob Mackie (pulled from the audience) is given fair tribute for his outlandish creativity. TV like this doesn't exist any more, and Show Stoppers will make you wonder why. --Jeff Shannon
The Carol Burnett Show - Show Stoppers Reviews:
Funny, but not a redo of any shows.
2009-12-11 - It is entertaining to watch once or so but again, would like to see redone skits in her shows or an actual show. Would not have bought these tapes if I had known they were only segments of here and there funny scenes. J. Asheville
Carol Burnett show
2009-10-02 - I was a bit disapointed , as I thought this dvd was Carol Burnnets, tv shows,
instead it was just bits and pieces of some of the funnier moments,, still
was funny, but I did think it was her regular shows, and not the interviews.
A tease
2009-07-21 - I knew this would be a show about the show, but there were too few clips--many of them only long enough to catch a facial expression or two. I bought it to acquaint a young friend with the Carol Burnett Show, but there wasn't enough there to even interest her in it, much less give her a sense of what it was like. Running time: 42 minutes.
Show Stopper
2009-05-26 - What a disappointment. Show stoppers is just that - the point where the show "stopped" It's like reading a comic book with only the punch lines. NO set up, NO nothing, and about the time you start remembering where the skit started, in ends "half way through the punch line" Need to ge a complete series, not this snippit of the skits with no set up or explanation.
classic tv
2009-03-29 - Bought this for my Mom for x-mas and have borrowed a few times . Wish it was longer , but if you can't afford the pricey full episodes get this .
