Editorial Review:
Tim McGraw has sold over 40 million units and dominated the charts with 30 #1 singles. He's won three Grammys, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, 10 American Music Awards, three People's Choice Awards and numerous others. The first single from Southern Voice, 'It's A Business Doing Pleasure With You', is an up-tempo, tongue-in-cheek tale about the price paid for loving a woman who loves designer labels, penned by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and singer-songwriter Brett James.

Southern Voice Reviews:
Absolutely recommend the whole album 5 Star Review
2009-12-15 - Getting to the music scene late, I've usually only purchased songs track by track but Tim is one of the very few exceptions. This album is so hauntingly beautiful and worth every penny of the purchase.

You've probably heard Southern Voice and It's A Business Doing Pleasure With You on the radio but after half a dozen times through the whole album my favorites are, I didn't know it at the time, I'm only Jesus and Love You Goodbye. Each song hits you whether you can directly relate or not and some still give me chills.

Do yourself a favor and get the album.

music rarely gets better than this 5 Star Review
2009-12-11 - Tim McGraw's Southern Voice album rightfully deserves all the attention it's been getting; this is clearly a hot new album and Tim never sounded better! The songs are well composed and Tim's excellent phrasing makes him a masterful performer; he truly pours his heart and soul into these songs. The quality of the sound on this CD is terrific and the artwork is nicely done.

"Still' has a fantastic arrangement that molds major and minor keys together for a beautiful sound; this is a great way to start off the album! "Ghost Town Train" has a faster tempo and it all holds its own very well; Tim's very good diction enhances his performance all the more and those guitars just couldn't be better! The somewhat upbeat melody belies the seriousness of the lyrics about a woman who has left her man. "Good Girls" gets a fine treatment from Tim and the music fits in perfectly with Tim's singing. "Good Girls" is clearly a major highlight of this album.

"I Didn't Know It At The Time" is superlative music and the guitars help a lot to round out the musical arrangement; Tim aces this as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing--but of course we know that it really wasn't so easy; Tim's talent carries him through every time. "It's a Business Doing Pleasure with You" rocks very well; the mixture of country and rock works wonders for this tune and Tim delivers it to perfection--and beyond! "It's a Business Doing Pleasure with You" is a pretty intense song about a man who's going broke spending money to please his girlfriend; it's very well done. "If I Died Today" is thoughtful and memorable, to say the least; and I really like "Mr. Whoever You Are." "Mr. Whoever You Are" also gets a very sensitive treatment from Tim and it's very poignant.

"Southern Voice," the title track of this album, has Tim rocking very well and that country flavor makes this really special. Tim sings this one faultlessly; it amazes me to hear him do tunes like this. "You Had to Be There" has Tim McGraw squarely in the spotlight--which is right where he belongs! The careful musical arrangement moves me with its natural beauty to make "You Had to Be There" a powerful song. "I'm Only Jesus" has another fantastic melody with Tim singing from the bottom of his heart; and it works! "Forever Seventeen" impresses me; Tim sings this song about a woman with panache and the album ends very nicely with Tim McGraw performing "Love You Goodbye." "Love You Goodbye," a very emotional ballad about a young man's life after his parents split, is quite a powerful ending number for this album!

Tim McGraw scores high marks in my book for his ability to turn out incredible albums like this. I highly recommend this album for his fans; and it also makes a great starting point for anyone just getting into Tim's artistry.

Southern Voice 5 Star Review
2009-12-11 - Tim McGraw's latest CD Southern Voice is as great as all his others. If you like Tim's music you're going to love this one

Haven't Stopped Listening to Southern Voice 5 Star Review
2009-12-01 - The fist listen to Tim McGraw's Southern Voice CD and I thought, it's ok, but not up there with say Set This Circus Down. But then I listened a few more times and have decided Southern Voice is my favorite Tim McGraw CD. Every time I try to decide which song is my favorite I just can't.

I agree with some of the other reviews that It's A Business... and Southern Voice are the weakest songs on the CD - but they do seem like just the right stuff for today's radio. And except for those 2, every song on Southern Voice I can "feel it in my soul." They are slices of life and McGraw is a master at telling those stories. Even if we have not personally lived those stories we can all relate to them. I can SEE the story unfold as if I'm watching a video as McGraw is singing the songs.

I first heard Tim sing "Still" and "You Had To Be There" in concert summer of 2008 and loved them both from the first listen. "Still" reminds me to just be still an enjoy my life - all the fond memories of the past and those to come.

"If I Died Today" has me in tears every time I hear it. Admit it, who hasn't wondered what would happen ... "Love You Goodbye" tells a story that too many people have lived and is another that makes me tear up when I hear it.

The haunting melody is what first caught my attention on "Good Girls" but it was the lyrics that keep that attention. Another song that shows McGraw is not afraid to take risks.

The uptempo love gone wrong "Ghost Town Train" has a melody that stays in your head.

Southern Voice is a CD I have recommended to every one of my friends.

A must have for any Tim fan or any country fan in general 4 Star Review
2009-11-29 - Tim McGraw returns to the Country world with the release of "Southern Voice". the cds a bit ballad heavy, but his voice has not sounded this strong since probably 2001s "Set This Circus Down." I don't recomend judging the cd by the first two singles however as they to me are the two weakest tracks on the cd.

"Still" starts the cd off with a feeling of home, where you can just sit there and feel the warmth of home. 4/5

"Ghost Town Train" is one of the Countriest songs hes ever done of a tale of a lover gone away and a man wishing he could change it. Good Country song and is my personal favorite along with Love You Goodbye 5/5

"Good Girls" a tale of friendship leading to a revalation of an affair and ending with a train crash. 5/5

"I Didn't Know It at the Time" a tale of not knowing how things turn out in life and looking back on it. 4/5

"It's a Business Doing Pleasure with You" one of my least favorites, it just seems out of place on the cd. 2.5/5

"If I Died Today" Wonderment of what would happen if he died today and who would do what. 4/5

"Mr. Whoever You Are" a tale of a girl wanting one more song and to get the hell out of the bar with whoever it is. 4/5

"Southern Voice" lazy list song that also seems out of place. 2/5

"You Had to Be There" a father/son tale through a prison glass and running out of time. 5/5

"I'm Only Jesus" I don't think I've ever heard the concept of free will expressed so well, and it makes you want to see how it ends. 5/5

"Forever Seventeen" speaks of struggling with getting older but to me the theme of loving yourself is universal no matter of age or gender. 4/5

"Love You Goodbye" what a way to close out an album. another father son tale but with a happier ending and a lot more chills. This may be as emotional as Tim's been on almost any song he's ever done, and is my personal favorite along with Ghost Town Train. 5/5

About a 4 star album all in all. Buy it and enjoy it. Tim at some of his best work.
