ALBERT EINSTEIN PLAYS MATCHMAKER FOR HIS EGGHEAD NIECE AND AN UNSCHOOLED AUTO MECHANIC.

    Description of I.Q.:
I.Q. has all the elements of a classic romantic comedy. Certainly Meg Ryan has demonstrated she has the stuff for funny love with films such as When Harry Met Sally... and Sleepless in Seattle, and director Fred Schepisi's Roxanne ranks among top contemporary romantic comedies. Even though Tim Robbins received acclaim for dramatic work in Jacob's Ladder and The Shawshank Redemption, his early comedic work shouldn't be forgotten (well, maybe Howard the Duck, but not the hilarious Sure Thing). And Walter Matthau? No explanation needed.

Combine I.Q.'s talent with its fresh story and it charms. Garage mechanic Ed Walters (Robbins) is captivated at first glimpse by pretty, perky Catherine (Ryan), a gifted academic who lives with her uncle, Albert Einstein (a brilliant Matthau). Catherine is engaged to pretentious James Moreland (the oh-so-appropriate English actor and writer Stephen Fry). Catherine's early 1950s world is all bookish and brainy, even though she has aspirations toward the romantic (Moreland's idea of a honeymoon is the Belgian Congo with Pygmies; she longs for Hawaii). Einstein and his professor pals, played by Lou Jacobi, Gene Saks, and Joseph Maher, conspire to match their beloved Catherine with the sincere and smart (though not intellectual) Ed.

This is a sweet--but not saccharine--story about "engineering" the course of true love and the ironic triumph of heart over head. The topnotch performances (which also include Tony Shalhoub and Frank Whaley as fellow mechanics) really draw audiences into this winning movie. --N.F. Mendoza

    I.Q. Reviews:
Shards of greatness 5 Star Review
2009-05-03 - This is the single most intelligent film that I have ever seen in my life - fusing intelligence, a breath of the Universe, the science of attraction with a brilliant and insightful dialogue from the world's top physicists. When the lowest common denominator in pop culture is often catered to via E! reality shows this has to be an almighty step forward in american movie making. I can't get over that America can wrap it's mind around the Einsteininian theories, immortality, life and it's complex destinies which are just a thought on your planetary movement through this lifetime - encompassing the unity of all life, love and the Universe. Pitting the geek (intelligencia elitism) against the car mechanic (uneducated underdog) with the ignition of love via a soulmate connection is inspired with brilliant casting. This is my single most favorite film of all time.

DELIGHTFUL ROMANTIC COMEDY WITH AN I.Q.! 4 Star Review
2009-01-29 - This lighthearted romantic comedy gets an extra boost from the cast who seem to be having a great time making this fun film. Matthau and his band of senior "brain-iacs" are so much fun we forget that Robbins and Ryan are the center of the story. Fortunately (for us)they're just as appealing and they are! This is a wonderful little screwball comedy with a nice love story which never gets too sappy......thank you film gods!

2008-11-23 - Exactly as described. I love truth in advertising and would gladly deal with this seller again.

    Delightful! 5 Star Review
2008-11-23 - Let's face it, most movies are becomming filled with trash. It's nearly impossible to find a good plot accompanied by clean, quality humor and acting. But despair no longer! IQ is a delightful film filled with quirky, clean fun, and outsdanding acting. I would rank it alongside movies like You've Got Mail and That Thing You Do. If you're in the mood for a romantic comedy, you've found the perfect one.

An everyone can see flick! 5 Star Review
2008-11-02 - I was surfing one night and started watching this movie from the middle which is where I came in. I was so happy to see a totally family friendly movie that didn't play down to adults but can entertain almost everyone in the family that I looked to find it again on tv. After seeing it from the start I had to order it to add to my extensive collection of movies. You can't have a bad time watching, Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, Walter Matthau and Tony Shaluob (forgive the miss spelling)plus many others. It is entertaining and amusing. What a wonderful way to relax on a gray day or just if you want something to entain you without frightening or scaring you. This will give you a warm fuzzy feeling afterwards which is a nice change from the violence in movies today. Somethings are just worth watching for sheer enjoyment and for me this was one of them.
