Description of The Girl Next Door:
While it suffered a nearly unanimous beating from critics, The Girl Next Door attracted more than a few loyal defenders during its brief box-office lifespan. It pales when compared to its teen-comedy role model (the 1983 classic Risky Business), but you've got to admit that any movie about a teenager whose new next-door neighbor is a 19-year-old former porn star has bona fide cult-movie potential. To its credit, this rather schizoid blend of sleaze and comedy boasts an engaging pair of costars in Emile Hirsch (as the smitten, voyeuristic virgin) and 24's Elisha Cuthbert (as his sexy new house-sitting neighbor). And there are some good laughs in a script that takes unexpected turns when we learn that Cuthbert's character is trying to leave her porn-star past behind, to the chagrin of her pimp-like producer (Timothy Olyphant, in a scene-stealing role). Faring somewhat better than he did with the Rob Schneider non-comedy The Animal, director Luke Greenfield clearly recalls the turbulence that goes hand-in-hand with being young, horny, and confused. There's honesty and even (dare we say it?) maturity to be found in this raging-hormone fantasy, even if it's partially buried in a convoluted plot that's appalling or appealing, depending on your tolerance for good-natured prurience. --Jeff Shannon

Elisha Cuthbert is an amazing talent 
2009-12-08 - While Elisha Cuthbert is "only" the love interest and doesn't have the lead role, her talent overshadows all the other performances and is in a different league. As a whole, the film is well acted, well directed and has a polished feel to it. But a silly premise and a storyline riddled with obvious logical gaps take the movie down to a two star level. What rescues this movie from mediocrity is Ms. Cuthbert's performance. Her acting range is amazing, making her an American version of Audrey Tautou, who's been credible in an stunning variety of roles. From cynical, bitter, trapped porn star to love-touched girl friend, Ms. Cuthbert takes each of her scenes to five stars. It's not her pretty body that lingers in the mind, but her evocative facial expressions. I hope she finds a path to mainstream Hollywood, which she richly deserves. Emile Hirsch is a good actor stuck with a challenging part and he manages some chemistry with Ms. Cuthbert, but he isn't in the same league. So why watch the movie? For the chance to see Elisha Cuthbert turn in a performance comparable to a legend like Barbara Stanwyck, who elevated many a corny B movie to A level, by virtue of her acting skills. Without Ms. Stanwyck, Double Indemnity would be a strange curiousity instead of film noir virtuosity. Elisha Cuthbert has the same level of raw talent.
Wish she was my neighbor 
2009-10-20 - Great great great movie. The lead actress Elisha Cuthbert is incredibly hot and the movie is full of laughs. I especially liked the porno director played by Timothy Olyphant. I'm a fan of his work in Deadwood where he plays a serious sherrif, so it was awesome to see him pull of this completely different role as a slimeball. This is one you will not regret adding to your collection.

2009-05-09 - Very Cheap Price for a Very Good Movie! It might have taken over a month to actually recieve the product but that is not Amazon's fault that was the sellers. The movie came in almost perfect condition for being used! Great Price, Great Buy!

2009-03-18 - The film is hilarious, well written, acted, produced, and tells a good story. It is definitely worth watching, and a necessary part of any comedy collection.

2009-01-22 - I bought it, because I didn't see the unrated edition. Fiqured with all the nudity in this movie that Elisha Cuthbert would show something... no. You'll be disapointed.
The plot is pretty unbeleivable as it surrounds a highschool kid in love with a girl he has no chance with, and after falling in love with her, he finds out she does porn and freaks out. She leaves... go fiqure.
If you don't mind being C* teased by Elisha then check it out. Never fiqured out how you could make a film about porno and nudity and be the main character and not show anything?? Kinda weird, but apparently she's more popular in the NHL anyways.. lol. Oh well.
