Description of The Money Pit:
Steven Spielberg produced this underwhelming 1986 effort at a slapstick spin on Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. The pre-Oscar Tom Hanks stars with Shelley Long as a married couple whose efforts to finish construction on their home are sabotaged by costly and sporadically funny accidents. The unfinished domicile becomes a metaphor for their troubled relationship, as evidenced by Long's character's attraction to a madman violinist (Alexander Godunov). Hanks is the only reason at this point to check this film out. Richard Benjamin (My Favorite Year) directs but with no flair or distinction. --Tom Keogh.

2009-09-24 - This movie is what EVERY first time home buyer should have. I have seen it before but I came to Amazon when I wanted a copy I didn't want to pay too much for.
Outrageously Funny
2009-08-26 - I give this movie 8 Stars! To find a movie that brings joy, laughter, hope, enduring love and able to laugh at oneself and life and bring some reality to it is truly wonderful!! I laughed so much from beginning to end. I found myself there with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long - working it together, even when apart for those few moments. I shut out the world and allowed some laughter to reign inside my home while watching this movie. It was both real and quirky, but at the same time it gave me inspiration and my own hope that no matter how bad things may get, there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it is possible for love to endure amongst the chaos of the world. It's part of my movie library along with other greats.
CLASSIC COMEDY.

I love the Money Pit, that is my answer to say to that statement 
2009-07-27 - If you are familiar with any Sid reviews then you know about our love of b films. You make think The Money Pit was a huge film and in no way is b, which the point is valid. However almost every 80's comedy at this point can be found in the same category as b which leaves them all open to a nice Sid review. They all have really corny humor which walks the line of being b anyway, so why not treat them as such. It's a funny rainy afternoon flick and shows Tom Hanks in the light of still being likeable. Long before his days of boring drawn out big budget trash, the guy actually has something to offer.
Hanks plays a guy named Walter who decides to purchase a house with his girlfriend after they get booted from their apartment. They find a huge place for a cheap price only to have it fall apart piece by piece. It's really one of those essential 80's comedies filled with brainless laughs. This is something Sid loves. We plan on doing a lot of 80's comedies in the near future and can tell you this is one we would have enjoyed back in the day. Almost as much a Peter Griffin does.
