When prostitute Amy Post finds herself in trouble with the law, she decides to hitchhike, which unites her with drifter and former prizefighter Elmer Pratt. The two decide to hit the road together, on a journey to California, and after a series of encounters with bizarre people, they learn to trust one another and gain confidence in themselves.

    Back Roads Reviews:
    Okay 2 Star Review
2008-09-08 - This movie was just a so-so movie, however, it had Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones so it was still worth watching.

Tommy Lee Jones 4 Star Review
2008-06-18 - As always is PHENOMENAL.
Although, I might be biased. I'm probably one of TLJ's biggest admirers. My bucket list includes simply meeting this genious.

In this movie, TLJ plays kind of a dope, but you love him right away. His character has the mentality of a teenager but amazingly, he gets through what he needs to get through.

Oldie but Goodie 3 Star Review
2008-04-05 - This movie is somewhat dated but still very cute and entertaining. See Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones many years younger...would recommend for light, fun entertainment. Guys might say it's a chick flick!

Sally and Tommy Lee 4 Star Review
2008-01-07 - She plays a hooker, he is a drifter, they find romance together for a while.

a wonderful, forgotten film 4 Star Review
2006-10-12 - A great movie. This is another movie I love no matter what critics say about it. It may have some flaws, but the story itself is so engaging. Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones are great actors, and I believe that they provide nearly flawless acting in the film. There's also some very good acting from many of the other actors as well.

I won't give a synopsis, because everyone else has. I do agree that the film is a little unbelievable because the two main characters are just too kind for their roles. Most hookers are strung out and wouldn't be able to make the trip that Field's character made. It seems that they are just too straight not to believe that they don't actually work for a living. Anyway, the movie is still very good overall and it does provide most of us with a positive message about love and hope and not giving up on life despite hardships that inevitably come along. I also think that the adventure of just one day heading out cross country and leaving the past behind has some appeal
