Description of Who's the Boss? - The Complete First Season:
Who's the Boss? was a standard sitcom--turned on its head. Sure, there was a mom, a dad, two cute kids, a house in the suburbs... and a live studio audience. But Angela Bower (Judith Light) was a single advertising exec with a son (Danny Pintauro) and Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) was a widowed ex-ballplayer with a daughter (future Charmed star Alyssa Milano). The Connecticut mansion belonged to Angela (along with the big '80s hair and shoulder pads) and Tony wasn't her boyfriend, but rather her housekeeper. Then there was her mother, Mona (the incomparable Katherine Helmond). The sexed-up, slightly cracked grandmother is a primetime staple, but in the former Soap matriarch's hands, the character was a cut above (and usually got the best lines). As Angela complains to her in the pilot, "You've sent me a man for a housekeeper!" "Oh, don't be sexist," Mona replies. "A man can do meaningless, unproductive work just as well as a woman."
"Meaningless, unproductive work" is what Tony does for the Bowers--and does well--but he and Samantha (Milano) also become part of the family. Angela and Tony go on a number of dates with other people, but there's an obvious sexual tension between them. The show would continue to exploit that tension for eight seasons to great success (even inspiring a British version called The Upper Hand, with Honor Blackman as the "Mona" character). Helmond, meanwhile, would garner an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her efforts. Highlights include "Mona Gets Pinned," in which Mona takes up with a younger man, and "Angela's Ex, Part I," in which Angela reconciles with her estranged husband--who proceeds to fire Tony. Guest stars include Betty White (Mary Tyler Moore) in "Eye on Angela" and Danza's Taxi co-star Jeff Conoway in "First Kiss." --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Who's the Boss? - The Complete First Season Reviews:
Really?
2009-12-17 - Who ever came up with the premise of a nymphomaniac grandmother named "Mona"?
Because whoever they are, they are a genius.
Where is the rest of the seasons of Who's The Boss???????
2009-11-06 - This show is a total hit, its a keeper! Why isn't the rest of the shows released UNCUT & sometimes I think we should petition the company that released this dvd until they release the rest of the shows. I'm one of the biggest Tony Danza fans & I'm tired of waiting. Get a move-on whoever you are out there & release the rest of these shows, make sure they're UNCUT!!!! In nice storage cases too while you're at it. We've waited long enough I'm speaking for all us Who's The Boss fans!!!
Where is the season set? or at least season 2!
2009-06-22 - This is a great show that is fun and light entertainment. I enjoy it much more now than I did when it was on the air, I watch the DVD over and over. Love the 80's styles with the big hair! Lot's of laughs. Where are the remaining episodes? Please put out a Who's the Boss complete series!!!
Thanks.
Who's The Boss is the Best!!
2009-05-20 - Am one of the biggest Tony Danza fans ever and this show was one of the main reasons why I love him so much. I got my DVD in perfect condition. Just upset that for some reason they can release all the seasons of some stupid show like Green Acres, but can not release the full run (8 seasons) of this favorite show. Enjoy!!
Where are the rest?
2009-01-18 - The 80's had a ton of great sit-coms...many of which are already out on DVD. Why hasn't the rest of Who's the Boss been released? With the exception MAYBE of Ted Danson/Shelly Long, this show contains the greatest chemistry between two unmarried characters I can remember. I hope the rest of the series is released soon.
