  • Editorial Review:
THE LAST SHOT is the laugh-out-loud comedy caper that takes the movie business, the Mob, and the FBI and turns them into some very funny business indeed. Matthew Broderick (THE STEPFORD WIVES) and Academy Award® nominee Alec Baldwin (Best Supporting Actor, THE COOLER, 2003; ALONG CAME POLLY) head a cast of outstanding stars who steal scenes and grab your funny bone every chance they get. After years of being on the A-List of complete failures, Hollywood screenwriter Steven Schats (Broderick) meets Joe Devine (Baldwin), a producer who green-lights his movie and makes him the director. But Devine isn't who he claims to be, not by a long shot. He's really an FBI agent using the movie in a sting to take down the mob. Inspired by the true story of the greatest movie never made, THE LAST SHOT is truly funny.

    Description of The Last Shot:
Taking off from an amazing true story, The Last Shot mines some pleasing inside-Hollywood gags about indie-film production. But this is no ordinary indie: An FBI agent (Alec Baldwin) sets up an elaborate ruse to sting some mobsters in Rhode Island, by picking a screenplay from the slush pile and financing pre-production. The movie will never be made, but the bogus production will lure the mobsters into the trap. The hitch is, the starry-eyed writer-director (Matthew Broderick), cast, and crew have no idea they're part of an undercover operation--the poor saps think their ship has come in and they're actually making a movie. Adding to the joke is that Baldwin finds himself enchanted by the moviemaking world and beginning to care about his unsuspecting stooge (Broderick is at his most engaging). Writer-director Jeff Nathanson (who scripted Catch Me if You Can) doesn't quite trust this funny set-up, sweetening the pot with too sentimental nudges, but the two stars develop a handy odd-couple chemistry. Toni Collette, as a has-been actress, and Joan Cusack, as a sharp-tongued agent, have some riotous moments. --Robert Horton

    The Last Shot Reviews:
Found On TV And Now Want To Buy It - FUNNY! 4 Star Review
2008-08-23 - I came across "The Last Shot" when it ran on the Comedy Channel and am now here on Amazon to buy it! Very funny, clever, great satire, the acting and actors are hilarious. One of Alec Baldwin's best characters - which he went further with on "Will & Grace". Very well done, fun to watch Hollywood enjoy itself without getting over self-indulgent. A film that left me smiling. I recommend this unexpected find.

Unusual comedy with some funny elements... 4 Star Review
    2007-02-15 -
This movie gets pretty crazy in some parts... although Broderick's and Baldwin's rather restrained performances really help in keeping it from going completely over the top...
Some funny takes on the fbi and movies etc with a rather unusual visual treatment in atmosphere (using boston, the desert, etc)... alot of different camo actors add interest...
Reminds me of Mistress with Robert DeNiro which is possibly a better film (mostly because of Landau's great performance)...

    Enormously Enjoyable 5 Star Review
2007-01-25 - This movie is great. It is very entertaining and hilarious. Matthew Broderick does a superb job acting in the role of a down and out wanna be screen writer. The movie does a great job satirizing Hollywood as well as government agencies and has some very clever and very funny moments. I highly recommend it.

    Very disappointing 2 Star Review
2006-05-11 - One would have thought that with a good script , very good actors and a story based on real life that this film would be entertaining . I sat and watched and kept waiting for it to get better . It was like the whole thing had been put together very well and all the gaps were there for the laughs , but I wasn't laughing .

I would recommend you rent this film first .
I bought it second hand and had sold it within a week .
It did not even have the quirky appeal of a cult film .

I felt sorry for those involved and I hope being associated with it doesn't hurt their careers too much .
I hope you feel differently to me .

Loved this movie 5 Star Review
2005-11-20 - I never saw this movie in the theatre, but happened across it on televison, saw it, and decided to purchase the DVD.

No, it's not rocket science, but it is a very fun movie with some great acting and a mind-bending plot. Broderick and Baldwin are great. There's some very racy and very funny dialogue, and the best thing in the film is Joan Cusack.

Based on a true story (somewhat), this is a very funny and well-put-together movie.
