Talula Reviews:
Talula + B-Sides
2001-08-17 - If anything this single is worth getting for "Frog On My Toe" - a song Tori wrote to her grandfather since passed. It's a sweet, lyrical song about her early life with her Cherokee Grandfather as an inspiration. Talula itself is a great song, here in the "Tornado-mix" version (which replaced the original version in later printings of Boys For Pele). The other B-sides are also of great Tori quality, but Frog on My Toe truly stands out.
And she does it again!
2001-04-13 - These are some of Tori's best songs. "Talula" is one of my favorites from "Boys for Pele." The other songs are beautiful and are some of my favorite bee-sides. "Frog on my Toe" is a very visual and sad song. It reminds me of her southern upbringing. "Sister Named Desire" is exceptional to me for her piano composition. You really can't go wrong with this single because all of the songs are absolutely perfect!
For fans of Tori B-sides
2000-06-27 - Buyers should take note that there are a few different Talula CD singles floating around out there. This particular disc has four tracks and was made in Germany. Like the domestic U.S. version, this disc includes as track 1 "Talula (the tornado mix)," running 3:43 -- credited as "Talula (Tornado Album Version)" on the U.S. disc. This is a great alternate mix of Talula, featured in the movie "Twister," different from the cut on Pele. Both the German single and the U.S. domestic single also include "Frog On My Toe," a sweet little song that Tori fans will smile at (Tori herself has said in concert that she wrote "Frog" after having a few too many margaritas!). But this German single features two tracks, "Sister Named Desire" and "Alamo," which are not included on the U.S. version. These two are slower tracks, in contrast to the danceable, upbeat Talula tornado mix. At first listen, they may not seem as instantly charming as vintage Tori B-sides such as "Honey" or "Sweet Dreams," but both tracks are unique and thoughtful and will grow on you after a few rotations in your CD player. Worth a listen.
I love tori amos
1999-06-27 - i love tori amos, but i do not like the bt's synthasia mix, this is not because i hate when tori steps away from her piano its really because it cuts down on her singing talent. however i love tori so much that i bought all three of the talula cd's. I happen to adore bt's blue skies which also is sung by tori. It emphasizes her voice. That is what we love about her is her talent. Its just not as beautiful to hear the song get dragged out the way that it does.
wow is right
1999-05-18 - well if you don't like synth, you don't, but this one ain't bad. it opened me up to the dance world, and i think it's pretty nifty to listen to when you're getting ready to go somewhere...not the typical sit-captivated-in-your-chair-oh-tori-i-will-cry-with-you piano song, but talula, in it's many forms is (another) undying tori amos song, and the remix is just one more version. here's my oh-so-humble advice: *if you are a toriphile, buy it...all the better for the collection, right? *if you are wavering b/w this or another single, and maybe short on cash, go for Winter single or Spark or Hey Jupiter, or Crucify *if you like tori fine, but aren't really into the whole dance beat thing, (and have some money to throw around) buy this one....i mean, there's still Frog on my toe, Samurai(you get to hear tori's speaking voice! i love it!)and London Girls (i'm not a huge fan of this one, i would've preferred improv-tori, but hey,i get what i get) *peace, love, music, and tori*
