Editorial Review:
Live Wire is broken into five parts and is a well-seasoned book of poems skillfully blended with three important elements: life, humor and spirit. Some of the popular poems in this book are “Tax Break,” “Bastard Seed,” “Pimp Magic,” “Time 4 Change,” “Cocaine,” and “Roach Part 2.”
Live Wire Reviews:
Drawn from hard-learned lessons and the grim realities of current events
2006-12-05 - Live Wire is the fourth published book of poetry by Golden Style, written especially to raise awareness in a world where lies and distortions of the truth aren't merely spread person to person, but also publically broadcast on news media. Drawn from hard-learned lessons and the grim realities of current events, Live Wire appeals to voice, body and spirit, using simple rhyming schemes that lend themselves naturally to being read aloud. "Dried Ink": When the ink is still moist, / You have the option of a second choice. / Remember the days not long ago, / When you did things for the show. / You didn't comprehend, so your intellect, / Was put on pause, thus you couldn't grow. / Then you wrote words without thinking. / Now when people see you they see dirt, / You wrote words that left pain and hurt. / Now that the tears have been cried, / Just remember the ink has been dried.
Hip Hop Stylings...
2006-07-26 - LIVE WIRE is a compilation of poetry divided into five parts: Atmosphere, Political Science, Encounters of the Mind, The Streets and The Cycle of Life. From these chapters it is easy to recognize the poems cover social, personal, as well as political themes. Golden Style has an imaginative nature to put to writing things we see in this world we live in.
A couple of the poems were standouts in this collection. "Paper Box", which discusses how people will place you in a category in hopes of you failing but knowing your truth is what will make you prevail. I also found the poem "Hypocrites" to be profound about those who judge others. There is a even a humorous ditty titled "Roach Part 2" which details the ambition of a roach who is moving away from the ghetto to the land of the rich in Hollywood.
Golden Style's collection is eclectic in its topics with a rhyming scheme for all the poems included, which the author states is hip hop poetry. Some of the poetry could very well be controversial due to its topics such as drugs and prostitution. The rhyme in some of the poems seemed forced and in some cases, the endings were abrupt, as a result, a re-read was necessary in order to grasp their true meaning. LIVE WIRE does live up to its title with several poems that are electrifying in profoundness and poetic style.
