European incumbents have high hopes that IPTV will generate future revenue streams, recoup losses from eroding voice businesses and reduce broadband churn. But so far, consumer adoption is way below expectations. Neither the year-over-year growth rates nor the total subscriber numbers are that promising. Also, rival alternative networks such as FASTWEB are experiencing stalled growth of their video business. Even operators such as Free, which have given the IPTV set-top boxes away for free, have not been able to spur further pay-TV service adoption.
