Having proven its Sammy Hagar-led lineup a success with 5150, Van Halen followed that effort with OU812, an album that, despite its cheesy title, is every bit its predecessor's equal, burning with balls-to-the-walls hard rock that never leaves its pop sensibility far behind. From the sweeping power ballad "When It's Love" and the full-on rocker "Finish What Ya Started," to the stringbending showcases "A.F.U. (Naturally Wired)" and "Cabo Wabo" and even an uncharacteristic cover (of Little Feat's "A Apolitical Blues"), Eddie, Alex, Michael, and Sammy play with abandon and a palpable sense of fun. --Daniel Durchholz

My all-time favorite album, ever! 
2009-07-14 - Almost every Van Halen album is a winner, but this one takes the cake for me! This is my all-time favorite album of any genre... Eddie rips up the guitar with the skill of the highest-level guru, Michael Anthony hits the bass hard, Alex hits those beats just right, and Sammy's voice gives everything the edge it needs to make the music exciting and inspiring!
THE WORST VAN HALEN ALBUM ! ( EVEN WORSE THEN 3 AND 2) 
2009-07-07 - Ill start off with i love van halen , all incarnations and even find 111 not as bad as people made it out to be. This album isnt all bad , but gees it has some very very low points. Firstly the PROD!! is awful , the worse on any album ive ever heard , was MICHEAL ANTHONY even there?????? no base at all, this what happens when u let the van halens take control, just like 3 but this is worse trully. Its starts off with MINE ALL MINE , a keyboard orientated song which is quite deep 4 sammy , no chorus and EVHs solo is a bit of a rehash.Different to typical VH but nothing great . WHEN ITS LOVE starts off in a it of a LOVE WALKSIN kind of intro then the guitar comes in the chorus is a bit luvvy duvvy , SH doesnt have a lot of emotion in his voice n that lets this down , but a good song none the less. AFU is next up it start off with a great off beat then eddie comes in and rocks , but then SAMMY starts n is very avg lyrics r not sammys strong point, chorus is quite good though. CABO WABO is a slow paced easy going sunny beach song not too bad but does drag on . SOURCE OF AFFECTION is fantastic!!!!! cld be the best song on the album , starts off with evh finger tapping then rocks SAMMY SCREAMS HIS LUNGS Oout on this one , sammys hot 4 teacher .FEELS SO GOOD brilliant!!! the most underatted song of vh career , a true gem . FINISH WHAT YA STARTED a bit of a mexican acoustic number and the second single off the cd , pretty cool . BLACK N BLUE a song let down by SH silly lyrics , pretty avg this DLR made these kind of songs great like drop dead legs n DIRTY MOVIES sammy destroys this , very very poor. SUCKER IN A 3 PIECE BRILLIANT! very PANAMA but once again sammy screams a bit too much , cld of been a hiot with DLR. A APOLICAL BLUES goddamn awful cover!! dave made these songs great this is terrible..
This is an avg album along with 3 n 2 . Wld of been a lot better if the prod was done properly.

2009-01-20 - It's nice to get an old CD that is new and not been used. I use to go to second hand music stores to find the old stuff but now I can get it here. And the music is great, I love all of Van Halen's music.
Best Van Halen with Hagar? 
2008-11-11 - The second album with Sammy Hagar fronting one of the most popular rock bands of the 80's (and some of the 90's), this follow up to the commercially successful 5150 has more of an edge. 5150 seems to have been recorded primarily for radio hits (and it succeeded in that endeavor), OU812 was harder with more guitar hooks than synthesizer, and it delivered some radio hits as well (Black and Blue, Finish What Ya Started). But, it was mainly back to the guitar for Eddie Van Halen in this endeavor which makes this one of the best albums produced by the band in the Hagar era.
