Editorial Review:
2008 reissue of Van Halen's self-titled debut album released in 1978. It is considered to be one of the most famous debut albums. The album has sold over ten million copies in the United States alone and it is considered to be one of the most successful debuts by a hard rock band. Along with 1984, it gives Van Halen two original (not a greatest hits) albums with Diamond status in sales -- a feat achieved by only four other rock bands: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Def Leppard. 11 tracks.

Description of Van Halen:
At least half of the songs on Van Halen's eponymous 1978 debut are still considered classics, and the Eddie Van Halen instrumental "Eruption" revolutionized the guitar community by introducing a technique called finger-tapping into the heavy metal lexicon. A magnificent debut for sure, but maybe the band should have held onto a few of their blockbuster tunes to bolster the lean years that started after 1984, and continue to the present day. Regardless, Van Halen amply demonstrate their drive, showmanship, and musicianship throughout, blowing the needle off the scale on such tracks as "You Really Got Me," "Jamie's Cryin'," "Runnin' with the Devil," and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love." --Jon Wiederhorn

Eddie Van Halen is one of the most unique guitar players ever. 5 Star Review
2009-11-25 - 1978 is the year that AC/DC released Let There Be Rock, which is a great album, but my favorite album of that year is Van Halen's landmark self-titled debut, which features many classics. Eddie Van Halen is an amazing and very unique guitar player, and this is evident on almost every riff and solo on this album. The album starts with my personal favorite, Runnin' With The Devil. If you've seen the movie Little Nicky, you'll recognize the riff immediately. This song features lyrics about the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and one of the best guitar solos on the album. Next comes the awesome instrumental Eruption, which lasts less than 2 minutes yet manages to show off many of Eddie's guitar skills, the likes of which I've never heard anywhere else. The third song is a cover of You Really Got Me by The Kinks, followed by Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, in which singer David Lee Roth reveals that his love is "rotten to the core". Next comes I'm The One, a song about the music biz and performing live that urges fans to "show their love". The next song, Jamie's Cryin', is a very important one that shows appreciation for a woman's feelings, followed by Atomic Punk, which has amazing guitars and interesting lyrics. Next comes Feel Your Love Tonight, which is obviously about sex, or at least about begging for sex, followed by the soft and soothing Little Dreamer. The next-to-last song on the album is a partially acoustic number called Ice Cream Man, which Dave dedicates 'to the ladies'. It's downright funny when he says that "I'm your ice cream man" and that "all my flavors are guaranteed to satisfy". The sexual innuendo is very clear and it's a very fun song to listen to. The final track is On Fire, which basically encourages you to listen to Van Halen so that the band can 'ride your sonic-wave'. I recommend you listen to Van Halen so that you can enjoy pure and simple classic rock.

if you get one VH cd in your life GET THIS ONE!!!!! 5 Star Review
2009-11-17 - I can still go back to this album after listening to it for 30 years and hear something new. Nobody could play guitar like Eddie, nobody could sing like Dave. Just one word WOW!! If you're going to get one Van Halen cd in your life, GET THIS ONE!!!!

Great classic VH. 4 Star Review
2009-10-10 - Not my fave VH album but a very good one indeed!
Love Dave era Halen - awesome!
The remastered version sounds great!

First Van Halen and the best so far. 5 Star Review
2009-09-05 - Yes, their first record was probably their best, combining Hard Rock with Heavy Metal, and taking music in general, to places it had never gone before. Van Halen's music focuses more upon good times and has a mostly positive message, rather than dwell on the dark side of life, like some metal bands do.
