Editorial Review:
Charles dickens classic holiday tale gets a sassy and musical update in this new holiday classic. Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 03/28/2006 Starring: Vanessa Williams Linda Goodwin Run time: 88 minutes Rating: Pg
Description of Diva's Christmas Carol:
A new twist on an old classic, this VH1 production may not look like the Dickens favorite with Alistair Sim, but it's true to its spirit. Vanessa Williams is "Ebony Scrooge," a miserly Diana Ross-type singer. She was once part of 1980s trio Desire, but Marli Jacob (TLC's Chilli) was killed in a car crash and Ebony abandoned Terry for a solo career. While in New York for a "charity" concert--designed to benefit her more than anyone else--Ebony is visited by four spirits. First comes Marli, followed by the Ghosts of Christmas Past (Suddenly Susan's Kathy Griffin), Present (Duran Duran's John Taylor), and Future. The last is a tragically humorous episode of Behind the Music, featuring cameos by Nile Rodgers and Brian McKnight. It's enough to make a diva change her wicked ways--some of them, at any rate. Williams sings several songs, notably "Sleigh Ride" and "Heartquake." --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Diva's Christmas Carol Reviews:
An Instant Holiday Classic!
2008-12-24 - In the tradition of "Peanuts", "Home Alone", "The Grinch" "Rudolph", "Frosty". and "It's a Wonderful Life", and Long before Wilhelmina Slater from "Ugly Betty", Ebony Scrooge happens to be a Pop Superstar who does'nt have the heart for Christmas. And if you love "Ugly Betty" like I did every Thursday, There's a little Wilhelmina inside of Ebony Scrooge. Vanessa Williams does know to play bad girls very well, and to the contrast If Mark St. James is to Wilhelmina Slater as Bob Martin is to Ebony Scrooge. It's the one movie YOU gotta have!
My Favorite version of "A CHRISTmas Carol"
2008-11-30 - This is one of my favorite CHRISTmas Carol shows ever. The only other one I enjoyed was Rich Littles.
This one is for the music lovers. The singing is great, and the story line is touching, funny, and modern.
Kathy Griffin and Andy Taylor are great as the Angles of CHRISTmas past and present.
Vanessa Williams does a great job being mean in the beginning, then becomming born again at the end.
To bad there wasn't a soundtrack:)
2008-07-19 - This movie was really good I reccomend it for a fun xmas film you wont be disapointed!:) the only issue was I wish there had been a soundtrack I really loved the songs from the movie! also it is a pitty that there isn't any special features on the dvd:( over all I still reccomend it regardless of the no soundtrack or special features it is still a fun movie for everyone:).
