Editorial Review:
Tom Berenger and Billy Zane head the cast in this silly action film about a tough Marine and an Olympics marksman who team up in the Panamanian jungle to take out a rebel leader and the drug kingpin financing him. Berenger's done this switched-off soul bit before, but Zane doesn't seem quite ready for his part. In any case, the acting doesn't matter as much to director Luis Llosa as fancy camerawork to give viewers the sense of a bullet hurling along its trajectory. --Tom Keogh
Sniper [Region 2] Reviews:
Carlos Hathcock OR Tom Berenger?
2008-02-14 - IF ANYONE has ever read the book entitled "Marine sniper" about the infamous marine corp. sniper Carlos Hathcock, and have seen the first installment of this series "sniper". THEN THEY KNOW its a movie about Hathcock straight out the book! Sniper vs Sniper, and ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME someone recognized Hathcock! so I'm all for this movie! its a AWESOME STORY! POINT BLANK and PERIOD! Ofcourse the names are all substituted :( but like I said, if you know the mans story and the tours he served in Nam. Then you'll LOVES this movie TOO! I Recomend this to ANY AND ALL. who prefer "one shot, one kill! NO EXCEPTIONS!" kind of storyline rather than "tearing up the country side with millions of rounds of ammunition." BUT Read the book "Marine Sniper" FIRST! it'll really key you in to this movies story and the links between the two! You'll agree also if you do. that this movie is based on Carlos Hathcock. GET IT WATCH IT LOVE IT. Oh and the sequals are kinda crappy too though.

2008-01-28 - It was the DVD that I was looking for but I wanted it in widescreen. While the version that I received stated "widescreen" on the package, the DVD was actually fullscreen.
I was disappointed and returned the item. I would still like to obtain this item in widescreen as it will complete my collection of the subsequent two films on this character.

2007-11-27 - Sniper
I enjoyed watching Tom Berenger in Sniper. I went through the Jungle Warfare School (JWS) in Panama in 1969 and the movie depicted the jungle fairly well. The Indios did follow us around all the time. The only possible error I noticed was the recticle for the scope. I never saw a red dot scope, only a mil spec, cross hair scope on a sniper rifle. The cross hairs were typically gradated in mils for purposes of adjusting for range and any cross winds that were present. All-in-all a surprisingly accurate movie for Hollywood.
Highly recommended for fans of the action adventure, military movie genre,

2007-10-20 - Sometimes one (this one anyway) feels like some lightweight viewing. This is so lightweight that your television may have to be weighted down to stop it floating away. Now light-weightedness can go with good quality. Alas, in this case, it doesn't. The 1-D Mr. Berenger appears to possess two expressions, grim and grimmer, not to mention all the charisma of the average cornflake packet. The plot is feeble and unconvincing.
The film does have one major selling point - it is vastly better than the staggeringly bad "Sniper II". I believe there's a "Sniper III". I'm already avoiding the shelves of DVD stores where it might be located, so as to avoid contamination in any way by it.
My humble advice; save your money.
