The Right Stuff Reviews:
Some of The Right Stuff 4 Star Review
2008-08-26 - Vanessa Williams isn't the strongest r and b singer in the world, but she holds her own on a few select tracks. The only songs I really get into on this cd are "The Right Stuff", a classic get down romp with Vanessa tellin' it like it is, and "Dreamin'" a romantic ballad with smooth vocals. I was dissapointed to find out that "He's Got the Look" is the original album version, not the video version they released in the 80's. The video version has re-recorded vocals, and a better beat with better breakdowns and some added samples. The album version has sloppy beats and some of the vocals are pretty weak as well. The other tracks on this cd are ok, but sound pretty dated, but if you want that 80's sound, you sho do have it on the cd.

"VANESSA'S BEAUTY IS MORE THAN SKIN DEEP" 5 Star Review
2008-06-08 - Vanessa Williams hit the music scene in 1988 when the New Jack Swing era was starting to unfold. Her voice is really surprising. She never overdoes her singing but she still gives top notch performances. She's also an excellent dancer. Vanessa is a good all around entertainer.

I feel that the songs on this record suit her. My favorites include "Dreamin'", "Darlin' I", and "Can This Be Real?" I love the hits "The Look (He's Got)", "If You Really Love Him", and the title cut.

Unfortunately, Vanessa is still vastly underrated today. All you hear about are Christina, Beyonce, Rhianna, Kelly, and Britney. At least Vanessa shows that her beauty is more than skin deep. She's got the talent, too.

Consistently Enjoyable 4 Star Review
2008-01-13 - This carefully crafted debut album strikes a fine balance of energetic dance-funk workouts, smooth R&B midtempo's, and suavely sung, lushly orchestrated pop-soul ballads. Williams' diction is her strong suit and gives her an edge over many contemporaries who fall into the trap of slurring words and sloppy phrasing. Whether its her classy styling on "Can This Be Real" or her sassy vamping on "I'll Be the One," she displays impressive range and control.

While there are a few tracks here that fall into the trap of formulaic late-80's fodder, overall, "The Right Stuff" is a consistently enjoyable, colorfully varied set of tunes. From the opening kinetic titletrack to the mellow, heartfelt closer, "Whatever Happens" (a graceful cover of a relatively overlooked Bill Withers classic), Williams lives up to the album's title.

It is too much in some places 3 Star Review
2006-11-02 - I only bought this CD because it was about $1.50 for a used one on Amazon. I was interested to see what it sounded like, which the first half of the CD was alright. However, starting from "He's got the look" it went down hill a couple of levels. I must admit I really don't even listen much to the second half, and in fact I just finished listening to the second half to verify my thoughts. I'm sorry but it is as I remembered not very good in some cases, especially the off key "Whatever Happens". Overall, Vanessa Williams does have a beautiful voice and she can really sing, but this CD just is not, for me, very good. Now if you want to take a major step up into a better vocal and song selection, then Vanessa's next CD "The Comfort Zone" is one to get. Every song on her second album is good and on Amazon it is cheaper than this OK CD.

Allright, allright! 4 Star Review
2006-04-09 - Some of these reviews are hard to read, lmao. Granted this was the 80's and I'm glad I was born in 81. Because some of these beats let me know how the clubs were in the 80's wack! Just kidding.

Anyway, Vanessa has some cuts I like "Be A Man About It." Also "If You Really Love Him." Other than that it's not that bad.

You want bad but Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl." Lol and listen to "Next To You." Then you will know what it sounds like to cringe.
