Worth the wait! 5 Star Review
2009-12-18 - The DVD extended editions are not only way, way better cinema than the theatrical
editions (as everyone who posted here already knows), but also incredibly
high-quality video. I started with the US extended version (480p), then bought
the UK extended version (576p); played on a Panasonic 4000E (1080p) projector,
the quality is every bit as good as (actually, usually better than) that of
every Blu-Ray I have watched so far.
New Line had done an incredible job with these extended editions!

So I am happy to wait for the Blu-Ray release, even if that is as far away
as 2012. Better for all of us that New Line produce a Blu-Ray release that
sets the same standard for Blu-Ray quality as its DVD release did for DVD
quality, than to have them rush it and produce a Blu-Ray version hardly
    better than the DVD version.

PS. The UK version is well worth the difference over the US version, esp.
when played at 1080p with a good upconverter. (The Panasonic 4000E with
frame interpolation does an amazing job at that.)

PPS. The theatrical versions are just average DVD quality -- the comments
above apply only to the extended edition.

    freaking excited 5 Star Review
2009-12-16 - i love LOTR, read the books and watched the movies many times over. sadly, i have NEVER seen the extended versions. i don't know how. however i don't see myself buying the theatrical release on blu-ray and then turning around and buying the extended version. the movies i have now will suffice on the PS3 with my HDTV. i think it'll be a real treat for myself to finally see the extended versions for the first time when they come on blu-ray. i'm in agreement with most on here, that the studio could cut us a break and release them both together. as if the movies didn't already make a boatload of money.

    I don't want a set 1 Star Review
2009-12-15 - ROTK extended was a joke. I want to purchase Extended Fellowship and Two Towers on Blu Ray and the theatrical ROTK

Extended or nothing ! 5 Star Review
2009-12-13 - I hope nobody buys the theatrical version. Maybe that will "encourage" them to release the extended version earlier. I can't believe there ever was a theatrical version in the first place!!

Three cheers for the extended LOTR - Boo that we have to wait so long for the Blu-ray version 5 Star Review
2009-12-09 - The extended edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is much better than the original theatrical release. While the regular DVD version of the trilogy is quite good, it will pale in comparison to what the Blu-ray edition will deliver.

I think it is a shame that New Line has chosen to milk the DVD version dry before giving us the "real deal."
