Editorial Review:
What is a guy supposed to do when he catches the early flight home and finds his girlfriend in bed with a room full of naked strangers? Return to college and start a fraternity! Before you can say wild and wet wrestling, Frank The Tank (Will Ferrell, SNL),Mitch (Luke Wilson, Legally Blonde) and Beanie (Vince Vaughn, Swingers) have their own frat raging with out-of-control antics. But when things get to wild, the dean sets out to shut them down. The laughs are top of the class (even if the guys are not!) in the hit comedy from director Todd Phillips (Road Trip).
Description of Old School (Full Screen Unrated Edition):
When three thirtysomething friends with woman troubles (Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, and Vince Vaughn) decide to form a fraternity, it's supposedly to save Wilson from losing his house, which the nearby college is trying to claim for academic purposes. But really, Ferrell and Vaughn are desperate to return to the reckless, feckless days of beer bongs and hot chicks, and they drag Wilson along with them as they throw themselves into gathering frat pledges of all ages. Old School could have been just another string of bad jokes hanging on a flimsy plot, but the script and the cast have a jovial energy and just enough grounding in reality--at least, up until the obligatory beat-the-system ending, but by that point you'll forgive the excesses of this silly, cheerful, and frequently funny movie. Featuring Jeremy Piven and Juliette Lewis, with cameos by Snoop Dog, Andy Dick, and others. --Bret Fetzer
Old School (Full Screen Unrated Edition) Reviews:
Hillarious
2009-12-04 - this movie is so funny. i love it it's just one of those nonsense films you can enjoy. I Recommend this movie for everyone :)
Truly one of the greatest comedies of all time.
2009-10-16 - This and Animal House are truly the two best movies about college fraternaties of all time. I may even have to say this is slightly better because it gets at something that adult way post college middle aging men all sort of feel deep down : "Wouldn't it be cool to just toss all responsibilities and go back to college?" and then proceeds with the logical and probable consequences of three men who actually try doing that in the most comedic fashion possible, I was busting in half laughing through the movie.
Great movie!!!!!!
2009-10-11 - A new comedy classic!!! I don't know how much blu-ray does for this flick, but it sure looks great on my screen!! Thumbs up!
Adolescent and puerile
2009-09-27 - I wasn't expecting high-class comedy from Will Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Luke Owen, but even so I thought this movie was puerile to the extreme. The movie is filled with stupid characters, sex-related jokes, and drunken orgies. It's a remake of Animal House, but isn't a classic like Animal House. I thought there were a few funny moments with Will Farrell, but the rest of the movie was pretty pathetic. I'd rather watch a good Will Farrell comedy, such as Kicking and Screaming. This might be worth watching once for a few laughs, but I wouldn't watch it over again.
