Editorial Review:
Anne Hathaway, the delightful star of THE PRINCESS DIARIES, is Ella in the charming fairy tale adventure ELLA ENCHANTED. On the day of her birth, Ella is given a gift by her Fairy Godmother -- the gift of obedience, which is also a curse. Under no circumstances can Ella refuse anything she is asked to do, no matter how wicked it may be. Tired of being taken advantage of, Ella, with a talking book as her companion, leaves home to find her Fairy Godmother and return her unwanted gift. This simple errand soon turns into an amazing journey filled with ogres, giants, wicked stepsisters, elves, and the plotting of Prince Charmont's evil uncle who wants to take over the Crown and rule the kingdom. Bursting with colorful characters, music, wit, and whimsy, ELLA ENCHANTED is a truly enchanting and heartwarming tale that will captivate the entire family.
Description of Ella Enchanted (Full Screen Edition):
Fairy tales and contemporary satire collide in Ella Enchanted, based upon the enormously popular young adult novel by Gail Carson Levine. Ella (Anne Hathaway, The Princess Diaries) received an unfortunate fairy gift in her cradle: No matter what anyone tells her to do, she's compelled to obey. Despite this, Ella grows up to be a headstrong young woman who refuses to swoon at the sight of a charming young prince (Hugh Dancy). To get her gift removed, Ella braves a forest packed with ogres, elves, and giants to find her fairy godmother (Vivica A. Fox, Kill Bill, Vol. 1). Much like Shrek, Ella Enchanted is sprinkled with comic modern references; for some, this will make the whimsy too cute, while others will appreciate the snarky jabs. Also featuring Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Minnie Driver, Joanna Lumley, Eric Idle, and many others. --Bret Fetzer
Ella Enchanted (Full Screen Edition) Reviews:
Great Anne Hathaway Movie ever!!
2009-12-10 - I must say that Anne is better in this movie than the other movies she has done as in both The Princess Diaries along with The Devil Wears Prada and her most recent one: Bride Wars. This movie is quite enchanting i never read the book but I enjoy movies like these just as any other person. The story falls on a girl named Ella whose fairy godmother places what she calls a "gift" yet more like a "curse" on poor innocent Ella yet as she grows up Ella's mother falls ill and sadly departs yet the movie revolves around Ella on the search after leaving her home in Frell along with her evil & quite demanding evil stepmother and her two step sisters to find her fairy godmother to lift the so called curse. Ella comes across all sorts of creatures from ogeres to giants and of course the valiant Prince Charmont. Yet she also falls under another sort of spell with the prince in which that is none other than: love. I highly recommd anyone who likes Anne Hathaway would very much enjoy watching this movie!!
A Fairy Tale With A Twist
2009-12-06 - This movie is Funny and enjoyable from begining to end. Ann Hataway dose an excellent job in this movie. I recomend this movie this is an awesome movie :)
Humor, Music, and Fairytale rolled into one.
2009-09-30 - If you like Enchanted, you'll like Ella Enchanted. It has the right mix of humor, music, and a fairytale could love. A nice twist on the typical fairy tale.
Horrible film
2009-08-26 - I absolutely HATED this movie! I LOVED the book, and I couldn't believe Ms. Levine capable of translating her fantastic book into this atrocity. Ella was horribly acted by Anne Hathaway, Char's uncle & the stupid snake weren't even IN the book, and everything else was just too fantastical. Where was the menagerie? Where was the boarding school? In my opinion, to have left out these crucial bits of story & add the uncle trying to kill Ella was ridiculous. I wish I could say something, anything positive, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It was NOTHING I expected from my favorite book.
If You Love The Book .......
2009-08-24 - This is one of the worst adaptions of a book that I've ever seen. The director of this "acid trip" movie must have been under the influence of drugs or a mental case. The target audience apparently was 10 to 16 year old girls. The campy choreography and "Abba" styled awful pop music, the inane script, the crude humor, the casting (undewear model, Heidi Klum as a horny giant?!?), and a hip-hop fairy godmother, all add up to a disastrous movie experience. Even the art direction and special effects are awful and cheap! This movie totally destroyed the spirit of the book.
