Editorial Review:
NTSC/Region 0. 2008 release, the first official live DVD from Whitney featuring the fabulous R&B/Soul diva captured in concert in Norfolk, VA on March 31, 1991. Whitney is in great form as she belts her way through some of her biggest hits including 'How Will I Know', 'The Greatest Love Of All' and 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)'. Also contains Houston performing a stunning medley that features 'Didn't We Almost Have It All', 'A House Is Not A Home' and 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go'. A great release for any Whitney and Pop/R&B fan. 10 tracks. Immortal.
A Song for You: Live Reviews:
Misleading Cover
2009-05-04 - Because the packaging was different, I unknowingly order this concert twice. Like the other reviewer, I saw Whitney on YouTube performing "Greatest Love of All" and had to have it!
Fortunately for me the "Whitney Houston Live In Concert" has better picture quality.
Whitney at her best, but the sound quality is a little off
2008-09-20 - This DVD is actually a concert called "Welcome Home Heroes" from 1999 that appeared on HBO a few times. There is a VHS version of the original concernt that apparently more of the concert on it than this DVD does, but since I don't have a VHS player anymore, I gave this DVD a chance.
First of all, I have to say, WHITNEY is amazing in this concert. It's sort of sad to see the old unaffected Whitney at her best and know that her best days are behind her. The highlight for me is her performance of "Greatest Love of All" from this concert. I saw it on YouTube, and it's the main reason I bought this DVD. HIGHLY recommended.
Now to the bad news... the sound quality on this DVD is pretty bad. It sounds like the recording was taken from a microphone that was somewhere in the audience during the concert. Whitney's vocals are a bit drowned out. The emulation of the 5.1 sound on the DVD is a joke. I switched the audio setting on the DVD menu to just "stereo" and it sounded a little better, but not much.
Also, the DVD menu is laughable and very homemade looking. I've created better ones myself. There's no way this could possibly be a Whitney-sanctioned DVD... I doubt she has anything to do with it. Still, if you don't have a VHS player so you can get the VHS version of the original concert, I have to recommend this DVD to any Whitney fan. Even non-fans won't be able to help but be touched by her performance of "Greatest Love of All" from this concert. It's amazing.
