Description of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella:
More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. Bringing back memories 
2009-12-15 - I love this movie...I remember for my high school drama class we had to recreate this musical and I played the fairy godmother. This movie is great for kids and adults who grew up knowing and watching Disney. Cinderella is a classic and will always be regarded as one of the most enchanting fairy tale stories.
Great Music, a bit kitchy 
2009-12-03 - My daughters love the 70s version with Stuart Daemon and Lesley Ann Warren. I bought this as a backup when I was unable to find that version for sale. Brandi and Whitney have awesome voices ( of course) but the whole thing is played too kitchsy. Some characters just dont work in this version. But if you are looking for the R& H music and are sick of the Disney version, this is a good alternative.
a wonderful interpretation of a classic
2009-09-18 - I love this musical version of Cinderella no matter who is performing, but this one is perfection. I appreciate the multicultural, multiracial casting and the strong voices of all of the performers. it is the classic tale, but with a spin that makes it more contemporary and interesting.

Entertaining Colorful and Comtemporary
2009-07-27 - Cinderella is one of my favorites fairy tale and I really enjoyed this version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. It is an entertaining, colorful, comtemporary version of a classic tale and classic Rodgers & Hammerstein music. It's one of those remakes where either you love it or you hate it and I love it.
