Editorial Review:
2007 UK (slide-pack) single-disc collection from the R&B and Pop vocalist, one of the biggest, and best-selling, female artists of all time. She's broken countless records throughout her career, has had consistent success in music and in film, since her debut single "Saving All My Love For You" in 1985. Her music combined big adult ballads with stylish pop and slick contemporary urban soul and her voice is a benchmark that has not since been equaled. This 18 track compilation features her absolute best hits including 'I Will Always Love You', 'Greatest Love Of All', 'Exhale (Shoop Shoop)', 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody', 'Saving All My Love For You' and many more. The previous Greatest Hits collection was a two CD set that featured remixes and more, but this single-disc collection offers the cream of the crop! Sony/BMG.
The Ultimate Collection Reviews:
Love it!
2009-12-24 - I must say this is the best CD because I have been looking for a wonderful CD to remember the good old days back when I was in single digit age. The quality is wonderful, I could not ask for anything better.
Gotta love Whitney!
2009-11-21 - I've been wanting a Whitney Houston CD for some time now, and I looked through all of the ones on Amazon, and this one had a lot of songs that I like. I love it! Great CD! I have had a little trouble playing it sometimes on my car CD player, but I'm pretty sure it's my car CD player.
ULTIMATE! ULTIMATE!
2009-10-04 - Sooo good to have the old standards of Whitney Houston on one album. Anyone liking Whitney will love this album.
YOU HAVE IT ALL, WHITNEY !!!
2009-09-18 - Whitney Houston's voice mesmerized me when I was much younger back in the mid-eighties; and she continues to blow me away with her talent for singing far, far better than the run-of-the-mill songbird. Sure, her vocal range has changed over the years but the energy in her voice has never faded; it remains as sparkling today as it ever did and every tune on this album proves it! The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent; and I love that artwork, too.
The track set starts with a fantastic ballad from "The Bodyguard" written by Dolly Parton, "I Will Always Love You." Whitney aces this as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing; but of course we know it really wasn't all that simple--Whitney's talent carries her through. I love it! "Saving All My Love for You" was the very first Whitney Houston tune I ever heard; Whitney sounds terrific and the music that plays fits in perfectly with Whitney's vocals. In addition, a particular favorite of mine, one that always touches me deeply, is "The Greatest Love of All." "The Greatest Love of All" charms me now as it did then with its natural beauty; and Whitney does this better than just about any other singer ever could.
"One Moment in Time" is very well done indeed; and there's yet another gem in "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)." "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" has enough energy to light up an entire city and Whitney belts this out like the pro she is! "How Will I Know" uses great percussion as Whitney sings this to perfection; and "So Emotional" works as well today as it did when it Whitney first released it. Awesome!
"I'm Your Baby Tonight" has a very spirited arrangement; and "Didn't We Almost Have It All" features Whitney's full vocal range. She never skips a beat, either! "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" is another fine tune that leaves nothing to be desired--this music is all THAT good. "If I Told You That" has some mighty fine key and tempo changes that Whitney handles faultlessly; and "I Have Nothing" is yet another powerful ballad in Whitney's capable hands. "I'm Every Woman" shines brighter than silver and gold combined and the CD ends well with Whitney Houston performing "My Love Is Your Love."
Whitney Houston has brought happiness to millions of people worldwide with her exceptional talent for singing and more; this is a must-have for her fans. It also makes a fine starter CD for people just getting into Whitney Houston. Sure, it may leave out a song or two that you may have wanted; but, then again, since when is any one Whitney Houston CD enough to be a full sized compilation of everything she's done so well?
Thank you, Whitney!
A Flawed, But Wonderful Collection From Ms. Houston
2009-08-25 - Despite issues with her private life, Whitney Houston has always have a place in my heart, having grown up with a mother who bought her music & still enjoying listening to her over the wannabe divas of today.
Currently unavailable in North America (mine's an import from Argentina) this is a great alternative to the 2-disc greatest hits collection of yesteryear despite missing a couple of my favorite songs ("You Give Good Love", "All The Man That I Need", & "Love Will Save the Day") which has more to do with space limitations (the disc clocks in at over 79 ½ minutes) then track selection, thought I'll gladly trade tracks 4, 8, & 18 to have those 3 in here.
Also, there's no remixes, (although I'm Your Baby Tonight is a different version from the one most of us have heard.) & I'm happy about that. But unlike most reviewers, I happen to enjoy dance music & the remixes on the throw down disc are all very good but they should have just release it as a totally separate collection all together.
That said, this is a wonderful greatest hits collection. Hopefully, Houston's upcoming album I Look to You will be a throwback to what made her a superstar & a true R&B diva.
