Try It on My Own Reviews: Classic Whitney 2004-01-14 - Amazing song, amazing voice. You should get this single. Also i suggest to get Try It On My Own DVD single!
Welcome back the old Whitney!!! 2003-06-16 - This is truly a beautiful song. It is sooooo good to hear Whitney going back to the ballads that really showcase her beautiful and powerful voice! I don't care if people think it's sappy--it's the old Whitney. Whether or now it's the TRUE Whitney doesn't matter but it's the Whitney that is greatly missed. Her voice has lost some of it's power but the stress in her life as well as the drug use can do that. Her voice is meant for ballads--not hip hop. Whitney should be in the class of singers such as Celine, Barbara, etc. not Madonna or Mariah! I really do hope we will hear more of this type of music from her in the future. I LOVE IT!
Whitney is #1madonna,mariah celine are not 2003-06-03 - This is definely Whitney showing us that madonna is not the only one who can try new things. She looks great and if people are jaded it is because the public listens to every reporter and is so unforgiving. If she were not black this would not be a problem. Modonna has done worse yet every one rushes out to buy somthing buy someone who's only talent is dying her hair a different color every other day and shocking people with her antic and as for mariah and celine if it were not for Whitney they would not be as big. Whitney you go girl
I'd Rather Not "Try" it At All. 2003-05-29 - Whitney Houston's decline as a diva is astounding. It's hard to believe that she once rivaled only Madonna in terms of album sales. Unfortunately, that was a long time ago in a far away land. A dozen years and a turbulent marriage later, the Whit has found herself upstaged by younger, flashier singers. I saw the video to this single when I was on vacation last week, and to tell you the truth, Whitney has never looked better onscreen in years. But the song itself is a flat throwback to her big ballad days of the mid 1980s, and her vocal delivery sounds restrained. I can't see how anyone could give this five stars. Anyone with a discerning ear and with any knowledge of Whitney's prior work can agree that she's done MUCH better than this. I'm hoping that she can someday get it together and turn her career around, but I'm not sure if I should be holding my breath anymore. Normally, I'd end this review by using some cute catchphrase. But I can't think of one right now, so I'll stop here.
BALLAD OF THE YEAR! 2003-05-16 - If you thought overrated Christina Aguilera's hit "Beautiful" was a good ballad then check out Whitney's newest release from her CD "Just Whitney" called "Try It On My Own." Produced and co-written by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmunds, "Try It On My Own" goes back to her roots and makes you reminisce of her previous power ballads like "I Will Always Love You" and "I Learned From The Best." The lyrics are beautiful and have lots of meaning. Plus, she's never sounded better. Whitney is BACK and I urge you to request this at your local radio station. it could be another number one hit! Oh yeah, love that remix too! A+
