Description of DuckTales - Volume 1:
Ducktales (1987) marked the Walt Disney Studio's entry into the afternoon syndicated-cartoon market. The series was loosely based on the imaginative adventure stories Carl Barks created for the Disney comic books, featuring Donald Duck, his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and Uncle Scrooge McDuck, a miser who possessed "five cubic acres of money." This three-disc set begins with episode #6, "Send in the Clones." (The series started with "Ducktales: Treasure of the Golden Suns," a two-hour TV movie in which Donald joins the Navy and sends Huey, Dewey, and Louie to live with their great-uncle Scrooge. This adventure was recut into the first five episodes, which are not included in this set.)
Ducktales never matched the panache of Barks's inspired original. The TV series added the whiny Webbigail and her grandmother, Mrs. Beakly, who resembled a feather pillow with a beak. Launchpad McQuack supplied mock-heroic comedy, although his prominent cleft chin made him look like a pelican. When Uncle Scrooge and his relatives scaled the Himalayas in search of the crown of Genghis Kahn in the comic book, Barks ended the story with typical irony: people weren't interested in the gold and jewels Scrooge coveted, they only wanted to hear about Gu, the abominable snowman he encountered. In the animated version, the big joke is an amorous, ugly female snowman chasing Launchpad. But these shortcomings never bothered the Gen-Y viewers who grew up watching Ducktales. DuckTales - Volume 1 Reviews:
GREAT BUY!!
2009-09-14 - I grew up with the Ducktales and had to buy it for my expected son. Can't wait to watch them all again!!
A Reason Why I'm On My Way To Success Today
2009-08-18 - I'm twenty one years old. When I was a child I used to watch Ducktales every day after school. There was something wonderful about Scrooge McDucks want to stay the richest duck in the world. In one episode, when they give the history of Scrooge, they show how he made his wealth, through hard work, labor, and deal making. It was an impressive and wonderful epiphany, at that moment, I knew I wanted to be rich. I was six years old. Ever since then I've been a buyer and seller of anything I could buy and sell, whether it be candy, notes, yu-gi-oh cards, baseball cards, and everything else, as a young man with little capital, and having to charge people upfront. I'd buy game systems, play them for the summer, then sell them for fifty dollars devalued. A lot of things about business I learned from Scrooge McDuck, as funny and weird as that may sound. But as a hcild, watching Ducktails was, to me, like attending the best educational program in the world.
It was fun, adventurous, I could watch the episodes over and over and over again, and never got tired of them. This was one of the best cartoons I have ever seen. I'm so glad that I thought about it again and saw it was available on DVD. I was getting tired watching episodes on youtube.
This show made me want to be rich. I am still going to college, I trade in stocks with a lot of success, I write books (some stories that have seen publication), and I'm working on a travel agency with some friends that will cater to people who are looking to take world adventures. It all started with Ducktales, all its adventures, treasure getting, business dealings, and money making. The episode when the boys open a lemonade stand has never left me. More information was given in that episode about how to run a business than any time I spent in a business class.
Ducktales Season 1
2009-03-29 - It was a great item in great condition for being used. I watched these cartoons when I was young and it was just fun to see them again.
A fair Voltron usurper.
2009-03-27 - Voltron - Defender of the Universe - Collection Three is a tough act to follow. I was heartbroken when it was off the air. Correct me if I am wrong but the honor of replacing Voltron was Ducktales at 4pm channel 11. Not a bad sacrifice. Which made it easier for me to get over my heartbreak. Comparing Ducktales to Voltron speaks for itself. As for the Dvds I was a late discoverer. The first 2 volumes were already out and could careless which included the pilots. Then third volume came out shortly after. Now like the rest of you Ducktales fans, who are waiting for for Volume 4 I am anxiously waiting myself to be the first at the grab bag. I would like to give Disney Studios a piece of my mind. Where is it?!
All family fun.
2009-03-14 - My daughter and I enjoyed watching this again while my grandaughter was captivated by it. It is very entertaining and educational.
